overheating

i have a 2001 vx v6 auto i can drive car all week with no problem i went through mcdonald drive thru temp climd very quick and started beping i turned air con on temp fell back two half just as quick as it went up it has a new thermostat when i got home i noticed that only one side of fan was coming on is that normal

we were thinking fans mostly, dont mean to sound stupid, but are both fans meant to be on at the same time, we wondered if they came on at different times. Thank heaps.

you have low speed and high speed do both fans come on with a/c on and can you hear them change speed also they should come on when temp gets to 106? i think / take the coolent temp plug off WHEN CAR NOT RUNNING and test if FANS come on when you turn car on.

yep check relay and fuses both should come on when a/c on low speed then high speed once motor warms up
