Well I'm new here but would appreciate some advice.
The Calais VT high and low speed fans did not turn off yesterday when the car arrived home.
The temp gague on dash was showing normal temperature and the engine did not seem excessively hot, plenty of coolant in system. (Oil OK too).
Eventually I unplugged the fans after 10 minutes.
Later after the car had cooled completely, I re-connected the fans and again both started with ignition off.
I've seen a lot of unusual conditions attributed to a faulty ABS module in these forms, I wonder if that is my problem. I've noticed that when I drive to Sydney (80k) my ABS light might come on with or without the engine light. Later it goes out. When it is on, the gear change for 2nd to 3rd gear is a real 'kick'.
Any ideas on the BOTH high and low spped fans being on all the time?
As far as the fans staying on, with the temps. normal, ignition off it will probably be a sticking fan relay. It's a common problem. The PCM will turn the fans on with some fault codes present though, so...
The ABS, CEL light on will mean it's (they are) throwing (a) fault code(s). I think that there is a "How To" for extracting the VT codes (engine at least).
Bingo Cheap6, thanks for the advice.
You were spot on.....pulled the low speed fan relay, gave it a shake and re-inserted it.
Fan kicked in at 95 deg as per specs.
All works well, now the only problem is to get a replacement (BOSCH 0332 204 408)
The radiator low fan relay is part # 92092445.
Approx. $8.50 from Holden
I like my roo well done
