starting problem

hi i have a VT series two and my key is playing up, it doesn't always open and when i try to start it it turns over but as soon as it fires it stalls and then wont turn over again until i either turn the key all the way back to lock or lock and unlock the doors..

any ideas if its the key or the immobiliser???

It sounds to me like the immobiliser is not turning off. Next time it doesn't start see if the security light in the trip computer mode switch is flashing. Also, make sure the little knob on the key is touching the metal ring around the ignition.
