Default VT Engine Mounts - Minimum Clearance

    Hi there

I have been told by a couple of mechanics that the engine mounts on my VT Acclaim wagon are sagging badly and the sump and crossmember are just about touching. I have just recently bought the car and it came with a RWC which now, with two other mechanics saying my mounts are stuffed, looks a bit dodge.

I rang up the guy who did the dodge RWC and he said he was told by VicRoads (believe it or not) that your engine mounts can sag as long as the sump isn't hitting the chassis crossmember. The other two mechanics said there should be at least 10mm between the sump and the crossmember. You couldn't force a copy of Wheels magazine between the sump and crossmember it is that tight. Plus, the rubber on the mounts is all cracked and twisted.

Does anyone out there know what the minimum allowable clearance is to pass roadworthy in Victoria? Or if Holden have a spec for this?

Any news would be welcome. Thanks

$45 to 50 each for new mounts, just replace them it happens to all of us.

I've never had my engine mounts checked for a pink slip which is probably the equivelant of the RWC in Victoria.
