    Exclamation VX Bad idle

hi all just after some advice, had a small amount of water inside the rocker covers on a VX acclaim v6, so stripped down the heads and intake, while initially we were going to replace the engine we decided to try and replace the gaskets and see how we went, the gaskets have all been replaced and the car is now running again and while driving its smooth with no issues but at idle either in park/neutral or drive it idles that bad the whole block shakes. i've no idea as the plugs and leads have been replaced, the intake was going to be taken off again and thoroughly cleaned so atm its rather dirty. i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on what the problem may be ?

also when the car is in drive and you turn the steering the car almost stalls

any ideas would be great as i've no idea anymore am thinking about replacing the timing chain as the car has done 250000 k's and haven't a clue if its been done,

The stall on steering turn is a charateristic of bad idle - it doesnt have enough grunt at idle to power the power steering pump and run..

Im not sure on this one. Im leaning towards one of your sensors being stuffed. It's unusual for coils and leads to be at fault at idle, more often they short as impedance across the spark arc grows - Ie greater revs.

Check Cam angle Sensor and Throttle [position sensor.....

Probably not it but its only a 1 minute check. Check the purge valve vacuum hose on the bottom on the throttle body. Mines come of twice and my parents has come off before as well, very common. Basically means idle air isn't going past the air flow meter.

cool i'll have a look asap, also where the water hose connects to the metal pipe for the heater tap its leaking a heap of water when the cars revving hard 3k+ and also the water that was in the radiator is white... so not sure about that one either we're looking around for another engine now too

That'd be my guess too. Get some superglue onto the pipe and hold the hose on there for a few seconds. Will stop it falling off again.

the vacuum hose is on, still not sure as to what the problem is, the white water in the radiator is a worry tho and i took the oil cap off and there's once again the tell tale sign that there's water leaking somewhere because it's white...so guessing the heads are cracked somewhere :-(

When you have the idle problem. Right off the bat as you turn the key or as the car has warmed up?

Not necessarily cracked, might just be a worn gasket.

I have seen cars at work that have cracked heads, blown head gaskets that idle very rough.
So this could be the reason for your rough idle.
If engine mounts are worn the engine will shake aswell. But i dont think thats the problem here.
Also if there is a leak in the air intake duct this also makes the car idle rough.
There are lots of things that can make a car idle rough look into it and do as much tests as you can do.

well the head gaskets have been replaced just a day ago, we've sourced a reco VY engine, can anyone tell me does the wiring loom from a VY connect to the 2001 VX or will i need to remove the VX wiring loom ?
