    Default Approach Lighting

I've searched the forums, but couldn't find anything (then again, I wasn't sure exactly what to search for other than "headlights unlock". Is it possible to do so? Because it would be handy for when I leave work at night so I can see where I'm walking etc.

Autobarn's website is useless as the product range is unavailable (has been for quite some time) and because I'm not entirely sure what I should be searching for, I haven't checked Repco, Jaycar or Supercheaps websites. Can someone here give me the correct name for such a kit? and where would I find one?

    Thanks in advance.

Doesn't your car have an Auto setting on the headlight control? My VX Berlina, the headlights come on when I press unlock, they turn off after a while but I just press unlock again and they come back on again.

That was only in the VXII onwards (or VT Calais)

I haven't heard of a kit that you can get to do that, but I could be wrong.

Maybe get your hands on a VT Calais BCM, and headlight switch.

The newer series had that feature. Might just go to autobarn and ask them. Or even Jaycar

Yeah your after auto headlights mate.

Does anyone know if the VT berlina have the same BCM as a vt Calais? I would like the auto headlights working on my car. I'm hoping all i need is a new headlight switch

Auto headlights? Similar to say the VY where the lights will turn on when it gets darker? or is it a kit / relay type of thing?

Yeah like vy's vz's etc, some vx and vt's had them. There is some kind of light sensor somewhere that is linked to the bcm which is linked to the auto selection on the headlight switch.

Approach lighting is what it's called.

Would I need a different BCM to enable it? or is there something simpler? I have a VT Acclaim 98-99 (can't remember exact year off the top of my head)

If you are getting an after market kit then you will not need to upgrade your BCM.

Problem is finding an aftermarket kit. Do they even exist? Cause I couldn't find any info on google

I'm quite sure I have seen them in autobarn and have read about them in a jaycar mag. Check out those 2.

I've been to autobarn. They didn't have a clue about how to do it, they rang another autobarn for me & they didn't have a clue either. They suggested I ask my holden dealer about it

You only want the headlights to come on when unlocked at night right?

I bought that kit a year back now for my old vn so i'm fairly familiar with it, I'm not sure with the VX but when you unlock the car does the interior light come on? If so you could wire the power for that headlight box into the interior light circuit, and the sensor will only activate the lights at night, when the interior light is activated.

Yes. So when the car is unlocked, the headlights come on. and I suppose the light sensor option wouldn't hurt either.

If it were as simple as buying something that just bolts on, or just buying an "auto" switch off ebay, then I'd be set.

I was just doing a bit of reading and came across the functions of the BCM in my vehicle, which include:

From the looks of it, I need a high level BCM & a Auto Headlight switch.

Now, I can get my hands on a high level BCM, but it's not as simple as plug & play is it? Do Holden need my $$$ to re-program it?

The BCM needs to be linked to the ECU before the car will start, so yes, $$$ to Holden. You will also need the key remote that goes with the BCM.

Any ideas what to ask for when I go into my holden dealer?

Just ask them to install it & program it? Also anyone know what the cost of a new BCM is?
