Hi guys first of all an early thanks is in order the posts on this site have saved me a fair bit of money over a few years so thank you all. Second of all straight to the point. I have a 2000 model VT series II 3.8 L Olympic Edition I have been having trouble with an oil leak near or around the spark plugs and tips of leads, well id say it is only happening at one spark [lug and lead, looking at the engine closest to the window on the left. I'm not sure where the leak is coming from should I just clean it around and in the spark plug well or will it just come back if anyone know the problem or has had the problem I would appreciate your suggestions Thanks.
Rocker cover gasket. $15 will do them both (if you do it) will take you about 10minutes.
Thanks for replying but $15 is this second hand you mean or new and can an idiot do it. Do I have to empty oil ? Or is it just 4 bolts do you need a gasket sorry Ive never removed them before never needed to appreciate your help neet wagon.
sorry mate i just realised what you said the gasket lol I read it to fast and thought u said the covers hemselves do u think i should change them to or if they were gone would i know about it lol
An idiot can do it.
The rocker cover is the grey thing with the oil cap on it in the photo.
rocker cover gaskets are around $15 a pair, new. They are gaskets, so you won't need others.
There are 6-8 bolts to undo.
Take the old gasket off, put the new one on, and re-fit the rocker cover.
*****You won't need to change the rocker cover itself unless you damage it during changing the gaskets.
Done.
Any more questions just ask.
Your a legend I fully understand now and god that engine looks neat lol. Just a few things Im curious about do you use gasket sealer like silastic or something or will it be alright and also should i empty my oil or if the engine is cold when i do it the oil will not get that high aye ? thanks for your help i really appreciate it.
thanks heaps much appreciated will be done first thing saturday morning let yous know how i go lol wish me luck lol
You'll be right mate.

That'll help ya
While good in theory, the rocker cover bolts are actually 3/8 not 10mm.
Also, there is no need to take the oil dipstick out of the way, it's just as easy to take the throttlebody off. Two 13mm bolts. Then while that's off you can give it a clean up.
For the drivers side, it is necessary to undo the bottom bolt holding the alternator on. This will allow the alternator to be flipped up and the rocker cover to come out. It's easier to undo the bottom bolt for the alternator if you loosen off the drivebelt as the tensioner gets in the way.
