Default Removing foam air filter on VT 5L

Hi, I've got a VT 5l that came with a Foam filter. I'd like to remove it and put the original airbox back in with a Lukey panel filter I've bought. I've got all the parts i should need, bought a new airbox and CAI. all I think i need to do now is remove the foam filter and put the new parts in and connect it all up. however when i take a look i can see a wire and sensor that leads into the foam filter and looks as though it was done by cutting into an existing sensor wire and attaching itself to it. I'd like to know if this is a factory sensor wire or a dodgy one, and how this will affect putting the original airbox back in. I've included a picture with white circles around the part I'm talking about and two more pictures giving more of an overall idea of where it is and would appreciate any help i can get in identifying this wire along with any other advice for completing the job. Thanks.

airflow sensor i think just re-do all you OEM parts and if it fits (mabe it need a longer wire due to a different spot) replace it. P.s that is one dodgy possibly restricitve set up.
