Default VT SII Air Con Leak near TX Valve

    Hi all,

Im hoping someone has some advice regarding my wifes wagon. I took the car to Ultra Tune as the air con wasn't working when we bought the car. They said they vac'd it to test for a leak in which nothing was found so they gas'd the unit and then went over it with the sniffer. The air con worked fine for about 10 days then it appeared to be out of gas. I took it back and they replaced the o-rings on the compressor, regas'd it and tested again with the sniffer and no leaks. It worked again but this time only for 3 days. I took it back and this time they went over it again with the sniffer but this time tapping the compressor and tapping the hoses etc to see if it would leak. They wiggled the hoses from the TX valve and the sniffer went off. They then replaced the 2 o-rings either side of the TX valve and re-tested. Once again the sniffer went off when they wiggled the 2 hoses on the TX valve. The sniffer did not signal a leak anywhere else including inside the cabin. They are now telling me that the leak must be from the evaporator unit as they have replaced the o-rings on the TX valve so it can not be that.
Im trying to avoid having to do the evap as for them to do it its $1200 or a very busy weekend for me and a mate. Has anyone had a similar issue and or have some advice on this problem ?

    Thanks in advance

    Ok
had the same issue with my VT series 2 .held vacuum gassed it up ..empty in 10 days ,re gassed it with dye NO traces of dye found .......yet it held vacuum !
I then searched the web for answers and came up with this product !
    http://www.stokesap.com.au/downloads...roBrochure.pdf
    Repco stock it

there are some specific requirements for this product to work ...mine fitted within the guidelines

friend of mine is a mechanic that does ac work .......i bought this product and he installed /re gassed my system ......................5 weeks on i still have ice cold ac ........cost of this product is around $100 ,way cheaper than a strip out of the dash

there are commercial versions of t his for industrial use ........this is specific to automotive.i have the commercial version in my work system at this time ..and have had it there for over 12 months with NO issues that is why i tracked down an automotive version ................its only difference to commercial is something that works with o rings as commercial refrigeration is all hard line connections !

dannyn12, yes its got dye in the system from last time it was gassed a few years ago, so the sticker says.

ausrs, I found the same product after searching most of yesterday for what to do online. I could only find it under Repco Trade, is it a product I can buy over the counter or will I have to be an account customer to order it ?

i just rang up to make sure it was in stock then bought it ,in all seriousness i would not fit it myself ,i would take it to an ac shop and ask them to do it ,if you were local to Wollongong i would send you to my friends workshop as the car needs to run with gas in it for 20 mins anyway
If you track the guy down that imports this product (like i did ) he is a very helpful person and may even be able to tell you if somewhere local that can help you out !

Yes I planned on buying the bottle and was thinking of taking it and the car back to Ultra Tune and see what they can do. Because after all the issue I had from having to take it back twice in the end they refunded my total amount paid to them. This is Ultra Tune at Munno Para if anyone is interested.

how temporary would you say the fix was ????? are you an ac service person ?

when you used it did you follow the directions ??? there are a specific set of instructions for using this product ,it is not a cure all !

I am happy with it in my work situation (12 months) and so far i am happy with it in my automotive application (beginning of summer)

kind of figure ac service places would rather pull the dash and get $1200 to do the job than charge $100 or so extra to use this product on top of a re gas !

Hey mate I'm having an issue with my aircon. It's blowing air no worries and the compressor is kicking in it's just not cold. I went to munno para ultra tune for a quote and the bloke was going on about all sorts of shit that might be wrong with it. Just wondering if you had any luck with the sealant? I was hoping it was gonna be a simple $150 regas.

I really have to LAUGH !!!!!!!!'

It was Ultra Tune Munno Para who attempted to bend my wife over the counter. She told him I was away and they spun her all sorts of shit to get out of it being there fault. I ven phoned them from Sydney but they knew I was away. The fool knew I was interstate at the time, you should have heard the mouth on him. Changed his mind when I said I'd be on the next plane back. Same as when I thought na I wont play games like that (my wife said he was old and felt sorry for him) so I rung the RAA and then the Ultra Tune head office. Ended up getting every cent back we spent with them in CASH the next day.
Ultra Tune are NOT experts when it comes to AirCon. They have a simple, very very simple machine to do AirCon work. You are better off seeing the guy on Anderson Walk, he is an EXPERT.

You will also need to get him to put the sealant in as it needs to be injected into the lines with the gas.

    Cheers

well update on mine ...........i had more leaks in my system than this product could handle and 12 months on have replaced the complete ac system on my car
    hoses were leaking
    evap was leaking
    compressor seals were leaking
,i did all of the work tracking the leaks and replacing them so its not like a workshop over quoting or over replacing un needed parts !

The mechanic gave me a quote for a regas (Ultra Tune at Munno Para). I said does that include O-rings for the compressor because im told they are common faults. He said no they'll be fine there only a part which costs a few bucks anyway. Other companies say they include them and thats why they charge $40 - $50 more then us.

Well after the leak they then told mhy wife it was the rubber O-rings and charged her $80 for parts as they told her labour was free. I called Motor Traders and was quoted $3. I called Ultra Tune and they said Oh we dont use Motor traders our supplier is much more expensive...... WHAT A JOKE !

Thanks for your time and advice on this mate it's much appreciated

    Default Aircon issues

Is it right to assume that a faulty aircon evaporator under your dash will generally leak water near your feet?
