My VT Holden Commodore 99' V6, has been cutting out anytime, anywhere in any conditions, extremely randomly for about 3 months, I finally got a fuel pump for it and this is getting put in today by a MATE? whos done it before to his car.... hopefully he knows what he's doing, where is the fuel pump in a VT anyway?
If the fuel pump does not work, a CAS is my next move even though the diagnostic I got done came up with NO faults....
If neither of these works can anyone suggest anything else I may have overlooked, I read something on one of these forums about a kill switch???
Car has done 200,000km but has been regularly serviced...when it cuts out it just dies, like the engine cuts off, can be driving fast or idling, it doesn't seem to matter, sometimes starts immediately, sometimes takes 20mins.....
thanks evone
Should be either the cas or maybe more likely the dfi module not connecting good/faulty. Fuel pumps don't really make the car cut out and then come good again, not more than one time. At 200,000ks both the fuel pump and cas will be almost dead anyway all those parts tend to go at 200,000 (that's just as far as they can handle spinning around in one life time) so you may as well replace them all now to save you having to break down again in another 10,000 ks
From what your describing it sounds like an electrical fault of some sort. Perhaps a visit to an auto electrician is in order?
i only knew my fuel pump went when it just won't start on petrol one morning. it started on lpg though (dual fuel).
the mechanic found lots of petrol residue crap (looks like rust) clogging up the fuel pump and the fuel filter.
guess what? they are located inside the petrol tank!!! he had to remove the tank, pour out all the petrol to replace the parts as well as cleaning out all the residue.
my vt has done 272k now. was probably at about 220k when that happened.
hi all, thanks for replies...... well the fuel pump has been replaced and car is still cutting out!! sooo frustrating, we are going to try the CAS, if its not this then I have no idea.... might do what was suggested and take it to a auto electrician....
what is a DFi module? does it need to be checked then replaced????
The DFI module is the thing under the coil pack.
dude my VT did just this. when i dropped the fuel tank with lines and power still connected, i turned the car on. i noticed smoke coming from the electric connector on the tank. im guessing there is a short there. bumps i would imagine turns pump on and off. i changed the pump but it wasn't it. it was the cradle i had to replace to fix this problem. im thinking there is nothing wrong with ya pump. they either work or they don't. crank angle sensor would be another to look at as when these heat up they tend to not work when there on the way out.
