    Default VT Sump replacement

    Hi everyone,

because of my own stupidity, I need to replace my sump.

I have to do this myself, as I cannot afford to pay the ridiculous amount that garages want to charge me.

Any advice as to the easiest way of doing this myself would be awesome. (especially if it involves me not having to buy a lift)

    thanks!

im not completely sure about commys as i am yet to do mine (didnt replace engine mounts soon enough and there is now a 2-3mm deep rub guage in my sump:S) but i have done a ba falcon sump where we just dropped the k-frame. this could work with the commys aswell.

Sump won't come off without motor out, or at the very least un-bolted from the kframe and raised around 100mm.

do you think you'll be able to lift the engine high enough? there is only a small gap between the trans and the body of the car. lifting the engine lifts the trans.

i just know when i did my engine mounts that i could only lift it a certain distance before the engine/trans bottomed out on the body work and i couldnt lift it any higher.

would be interesting to see if its possible that way.

i just read my gregorys manual for VT-VX and removing the front suspension cross member is there opinion.

    1. disconnect neg terminal.
    2. raise front of vehicle and support on jack stands,
    3. remove sump plug and drain oil into container.
    4.remove front suspension cross memeber.
    5. place jack stands under engine mounts to support engine.
    6. remove support brace retaining bolts and nuts and withdraw the support brace from the vehicle.
    7. remove bolts retaining the wiring harness and where applicable, the transmission cooler pipes to the front of the sump.
8.remove sump retaining bolts and lower the sump from the engine.

You don't need to lift it very much, basically you just need to take the weight off.

i had to do the same thing, but alot more as well, anyway, couldnt afford the lift either, so me and dad came up w/ the idea to get a steel square pipe, and some chain, put the wood under neath the stel to stop it breaking the frame, and we jacked it up, seeing as the sump is screwed anyway it wont matter.
