Hey guys,
My mates got a VT commodore and when we were cruising last night it developed a sort of metal on metal, like metallic scraping noise.
We think we've narrowed it down to the right rear, that seems to be where the most noise is being generated and it was late last night and we could give it a proper look.
You guys heard of anything like this happening?
It could be anything really thats snapped off and grinding or anything, just checking for any other help.
Cheers
Best bet would be to jack up the back of the car, put it on car stands, start the car and put it in gear. Then listen.
Then, turn car off, lower to ground, remove the wheels and repeat the above process.. but leave the brake caliper on. If the sound remains, turn the car off and remove the brake caliper and disc, then repeat the process.
If the noise is still there then you may have an expensive problem. If the rear isn't the culprit it won't make the noise the first time.
Also, once you've got to that final point, loosen off the handbrake completely, it might be something as simple as that.
Inspecting for abrasions should identify the issue pretty quickly.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
Hi VRNathan
Can I ask, is it all the time when you are moving or just when you go over bumps? Why I ask is that I had something similar in my VT wagon when I went over a bump and it turned out to be some bushes in the front suspension that were worn away. Maybe a bush has worn away in the back somewhere.
check the rear brakes could need new pads
@s_ikari2015: Cheers for that, i'll do all of that and see what i can find.
@mbvp73: Hey man, the noise is a constant when driving only. The noise itself fades in then out and then fades in and out almost constantly when driving, it's not just confined to bumps
@club255: Yeah could well be, i'll be sure to check that out too.
Cheers for the help guys
wheel bearing??? sounds similar to when my front one was going......
