Bought another car today, wasnt going to but the price was right. The question is how the heck do i tell if its a VTS2 SS or VTS2 EXEC as arent the vins the same for either??
Its got what appears to be all the right bits but the front bar appears to an exec frt bar with a ss lower spoiler, switch is on the dash for the spotlights though & the instrument cluster just looks like a standard one. I thought the ss had a different cluster setup. If someone could help it would be appreciated. I would provide the vin but i dont think it would help as from what i have found the vins are the same for both of these cars.
Build year is right(2000)model is right for an exec or an ss,was built in Adelaide, corect id for a 5.7, everything else is pretty much standard on the vin.
Only difference i can find is the kerb weight:
EXEC Kerb Weight (kg) 1576
SS Kerb Weight (kg) 1685
and EXEC does 0-100 in 9.3 SS 6.6
some vtss had the same single window black cluster.ring holden to make sure about the vin being a ss and pics!!
if its a manual the EXEC kerb weight is 1537 and the SS 1660, yea exec came with 5.7 man
ss has power antenna exec doesn't, also look for rim size somewhere, ss had 17's exec 15's
bugger,i thought that being a manual might have been the solution![]()
lsd was standard on the ss and option on the exec but that wont help you unless it doesn't have one
Kerb weight?? Rim size??
How is that going to help him figure out if it is REALLY a SS??
Best way to work it out is simply ring holden with the VIN and build number.
Or my understanding is that the only way to work it out yourself is the option code on the buld plate, which is the 3 characters on the end of the model line.
An Exec reads: VT8VK69-1**
1 = exec level, ** is variations of the option pack = eg 1BB, 1CC, 1DD, 114, 115, 124, 125 etc.
An SS reads: VT8VK69-8**
8 = SS level, ** is variations of the option pack = eg 8BB, 8CC, 8DD, 824, 825 etc).
Hope that helps.
dunno, was just trying to help by telling him some differences between the two
Sorry mate, did mean to have a go.
Just rims and placards can be swapped and unless he has access to a weigh bridge, kerb weight isn't all that helpful.
The point about the power antenna is helpful on the other hand.
easiest way is to ring holden with the vin n plate numbers......
I have a Holden sales brochure here on the VTII range and the differences listed in the specifications in the brochure are below, not to say that any or all of them could not be added, but this is what the differences are according to the sales brochure:
GenIII V8 - option on the Exec.
Cruise Control - option on Exec.
LSD - option on Exec.
FE2 suspension - option on Exec.
17" x 8 alloy wheels.
Sports Graphite grille - what ever that is.
Sports Body Kit - which means no stop light in rear window as it is in the spoiler.
Probably a good one to differentiate between the Exec and SS. My VX SS has a blacked out panel in the glass on the rear window.
Front Fog Lamps.
Exterior Mirrors in body colour.
Chromed exhaust outlet - Accessory on Exec.
Leather wrapped steering wheel - Holden by Design accessory on Exec.
Power Antenna.
Sports Design cloth trim on seats.
Sports seats with high side support wings and bolsters.
Front seat headrests adjustable and padded.
Passengers seat adjustable lumber support.
Rear seat centre armrest, incorporated into the fold down section on rear seat. No armrest on Exec.
Power windows - Option on Exec.
Hope this helps.
thanks guys for all the suggestions, unfortunately for us all some of the things mentioned can be changed if your cluey enough to turn an exec into a mock up
jesterarts,if your codes are bang on the money its definately an ss. model code variations on this are 826 8BB. so it looks like it was a good deal, especially being a manual.score one for me,lol
