Hi folks,
I currently have a Series II VX SS with the stock FE2 suspension and 17x8 alloys.
I'm interested in upgrading to a bigger tyre and wheel combo, and was just wondering whether a set of 20x8's with 245 tyres will fit without the need to complete any modifications, such as rolled guards etc?
As much as I would like to slam the car on a set of superlows, "She who must be obeyed" has dictated that the FE2 suspension shall remain for the time being due to the fact that it is essentially her daily driver for the time being and she likes the current ride height for driveability etc.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Weasel

To do it legally you need to run a 245/30R20. 245/35R20 is too big.
My normal advice would be to stick with 19's but ESPECIALLY if it's your wife's daily. You can run 245/35R19's comfortably.

Thanks heaps for the prompt reply - it's much appreciated!
It looks like 19's might be the way to go - as much as I love the "bling" factor associated with 20's I've seen some that just make the car look like a 4WD, and I'be concerned that running 225/35R20's would be too thin on such a large diameter rim in terms of the overall perspective etc.

im running 245/30/r20 as a 35mm profile wouldnt clear my fronts struts, so i went a smaller profile tyre - but yes u can.. u will only need to roll the guards if u lower it, and that will only be the rear guards as thr fronts come rolled from stock.. oh mine is a vx s on sl (front) ssl (rear).. if that helps, so pre much the same as the ss..
Im running 19"s with king spring lows on my ute, but the ride is shit, what can I do to get a better ride on the 19's. Ive been in heaps of other cars/utes with 19's and their ride has been way better than mine...
// noozeeland
// 2002 Holden VU SS Ute
what springs r u running noozeland? have u got stock or new and better aftermarket shocks etc?
Thanks for this guys. What's the ride quality like with 20's? I've heard that you have to be really careful going over bumps and potholes etc, as you risk buckling the rim etc. I've also heard that tyre wear with 20's can be excessive....
As much as I'd personally love a set of 20x8 ROH Blackhawks I have to consider the fact that the car is the missus' daily driver.

19"s would be the way to go man, 20"s r starting to get abit big, more headaches. Especially if ur cars got some guts, it will break traction easier, 17"s r actually ideal but they look gay lol
i just bought a vt ss the other week and have alredy dumped it on 20's 225 35 and lowered it wit ssl's up front and sssl's in back. it's scrubbin front and back alot! will having the gaurds rolled fix this???
