going to look at a vt 5.7 6speed in a few weeks and it has 175 000 km on clock!has it had its days or cause it has that many kms it might just keep going!cheers vic
from what my dad hastold me about engines, is that the v8s last a while, my v6 has 134000 on it and goes like new (to bad i cant drive it) but you shouldnt hit problems til around 250000 escpecially if you maintain it well

Kilometers means nothing really. I've been in Commodore taxis with over 750,000 on the clock still on the original engine. An engine that is looked after properly will be perfectly fine at 175,000.
If you're concerned about the engine being thrashed check the rear guards for rubber. Also if the car has a three window display check the average fuel usage reading.
Even if the engine isn't perfect, half a day giving it a good service followed by a professional tune will have it good again.
