E-4 means u have to reset it first if no luck then it has to go back to eurovox. better yet go to ebay and get a different one.
id be buying a new head unit! preferably NOT EURO-POX! go a pioneer or something, dont be worried about having an open space left under it, most places that install will have trays available instead of having a face of carpet ect under the H/U. i love having the 2 trays under mine as i use the new one to sit my mobile in while charging, so much easier then putting it in the bottom one as ive got a manual.
Usually when you get the E-4 message your laser in the CD player is cactus!! Mine had that problem and after speaking to Holden and a few other people, I replaced it! Definitely not worth repairing. Ebay is an option if you want to keep it original, or you could just do what "Rubber Burnin Gal" suggested and get a new stereo!

Actually I had this error on my car. Took the head unit apart, cleaned the laser with some cleaning alcohol and never had another problem since.

Do you just get those forky things and the head unit just pulls straight out ? then i can clean it put it back in and rock n roll again ? :P

If you still see this code, then you might have to reset the player and my OEM eurovox had its own security code to activate most of its functions. It couldnt read most CDs and certainly wont read CDR disc where you have burned songs for your own listening pleasure. If you would like to upgrade your headunit, I would recommend looking for good replacements.
I changed mine to Kenwoods and swapped out the OEM 'Korean-made' door speakers to FOCALS and have been rocking my tunes ever since.
Dude before wasting any money on the tool to remove head unit. Try one of those CD Laser lens cleaner discs. My VX wagon was jumping, skipping and had stopped playing anything and i ran the lens cleaner disc 3 times and it hasnt missed a beat since. Much better use of $5 if you ask me.
You probably just have a heap of shit on the lens.
The head removal tool is also called a coathanger . Just cut it in half then bend it into a U shape then insert it into the two holes either side of the h/u . Four 2 inch nails also does the trick.

Been trying to do a search on VX CD player problems, couldn't find what I was after so thought I would tack onto this thread, just came back from a 600km trip in the VX SS today,
I was having a few problems with CD's that have been copied, daughter gave me a few CD's to take along, I had a few instances where there may be say 12 or so tracks on a CD and 6 or 7 would play fine then out of the blue the next track would stick like an old record and continually repeat over and over until I hit next on the steering controls and it moved onto the next track and continued to play ok, did the same thing on a few of the discs I had, is it something to do with copied Cd's or a fault in the player. I didn't have any shop bought CD's with me to see if it did it with those, any thoughts?
Stock CD player in my VU used to to the same thing, as well as sometimes the E-4 problem as spoken of above. Only ever donw it with burnt CD's though, never bought ones. SO I put it down to the Eurovox not liking burnt CD's
My eurovox in the vx doesn't like burnt cd's.
Plays everything else fine so I havn't bothered replacing it. Just got the steering wheel controls working too....so don't really want to sacrifice them if I get an after market headunit!

mine plays all burnt cds except cds that have a shiny top,i stick to the white printable ones and i have never had a problem
i had the same problem with mine, it would only play proper cds... i ended up putting another stereo in. BUT at the time i found the only way it played burnt cds was if i rubbed the burnt ones (topside down) to get some friction on my lap and warmed up the cd.. for some reason it would always play after that. the only possible reason i can think of is the stereo/burnt cds being so cold that they may have a tiny ammount of mist/dampness which stopped it from reading..i found that dicksmith and TDK blank cds played the best too. hope that helps
