Cool VT's engine is stuck as

    HI Gang...

    Well after sorting out keys...
And sorting out fuses and relays...
And getting a new battery....which by the way ...i recon is a little under sized
but it was listed for the vt--vx...

And getting all the spark plugs out without thread on them..yeee haaa!
And giving each hole a sqirt of wd40

I now have a engine that wont turn over...its stuck as....
Now to be frank its been a while since I have had a stuck engine in a car...
So I am up for some ideas on unstucking without removal...

I remeber I have used the following in engines to unstick them over 1-2 weeks..
mix 1/2 oil and diesel in each pot and put spark plugs back in..and keep tring with a starter and socket on the crank..
I have also tried wd40 and the like...
I have also tried red -x
And I have tried tansmission oil....
I tried Hot oil poored into each one...and keep doing for 1 week or so..
A mate from the USA gave me some oil once to unlock a new rebuild engine that jammed..and it was called ""mystery oil""
I also seen ...in my younger days when i worked at a marine engineers shop...
Coke a cola and oil...mix--( however i remeber that we got told to wclean off all coke sugars after with pure alcohol....)

I dont know if its piston rings or valve or timming chain....
Because it was overheated when the sump nut came loose and fell out..and it ran out of oil..while running...it got way hot eal qucik..
The day was like 39 C and humid as...the car had been on a long run over 500kms..when the thing let go...

So far ,,,,only 1 plug and snapped and shattered the porceline..
all spark plug leads have speereated from boot spark plug end ..from over heat
However ....zero change in colour to the exhaust manifold...
And no water in the oil..
I was not in the car or driving oit at the time..
I was the pick up service..and i put in a replacement sump nut and filled it with new oil..
I would have loved to do it while it ran..if i could before it stopped...but...i was not there.

Does anyone have any good ideas...??? at this point..
I was thinking about dropping out oil..taking sump cover off..and inspection of the shells in the crank...
I was also thinking of tring all the mixes one by one over the next few weeks..
and see if i can not unstick the thing...

I can see i am going to up for some bucks here....price round already says ..short block $550 long $1100...i am told that for a engine around 100k --150k old
and i not sure what a set of piston and rings are worth...and hone..
and if it needs bottom shells and head skim and valves ?
    gasket set
water pump and timing chain...if your going to have the engine apart.
    new plug set
    new spark plug leads
    new fan belt
    new oil
    new coolant
god knows what there all worth??

Anyway...i am in soak and see mode...and any ideas on mixtures...
I know the pistonm or pistons stick on the ring set wont be perfect when i release them...
but they should work for little while..if i can get all 6 humming !

    Dont you just love cars...
    LOL

    well guys and gals...

the vt engine is now unstuck...yeee haaa!
it took 2 days of wd 40 soaking and battery recharging ..and turning over or trying until the battery died each time..
( you could not turn the engine over with a socket and a bar)
and i may have to replace the starter unit later...mainly the soli....for over working it...and for even geting to smoke and burn a little..
until on day 2.5 you could turn it by hand again..with plugs removed..after the battery slowly built up from turning it 1-2inch to each cyc on a compression stroke..

so i placed the plugs back in ( new ones) finger tight only
and ran it on and off a few times...and it got faster and faster...
    and less stiff..

so on went the spark plug leads.......( the old set with a top from second hand set i had for repl;aceing the melted and brocken ones)
    and it started...bingo....so i stopped it ....
and have just replaced the fan belt...old one back....for now...to wear off the rust and dirt on the pulleys etc..then i replace with a new one

soon as i can get across the river i grab a jerry can of fuel...and take old faithful for a run....
and if it goes well...it be re regoed by the end of the week !

Cost thus far...engine oil / key clone / new battery / new spark plugs / a can of wd40 / new fuses and relays / a new fan belt / anew set of spark plug leads / engine coolant.all the relays and fuses and replace fus box cover for under bonnet and under the dash all free from my wreckers A top bloke !

so i will be doing the test run...then doing some compression tests..and see what the state of the each cyclinder is...engine wise...the car has done under 230k but more than 220k...

if all is well i drop the oil and oil filter in 1000kms or so...and it should be as good as.....
we will see....but at least ...for now its not as bad as it was..
Keep the faith VT owners...they are tuff..

    bye

I'm interested to see if this turns out good for you. Many years ago, I had an AP6 Valiant V8. I had an engine that had been reconditioned but left in a shed with the plugs out. Water had entered into the plug holes (I still don't know how) which rusted and siezed it. Pulled it down again, honed it and put it back together. It went OK for a while but then started to use lots of oil and finally gave up the ghost.

Seems this is the same for cars that have been flood damaged also. They don't last too long after being submerged

hi bob...well i can tell you lots of good storys with outboards...before i joined the navy....i worked at a service station near kedron -- in the brisbane...Mt dad was a fitter...and worked on many naval ships and tugs etc... My grand dad was in the army and worked on tanks etc...they both got me a job locally at kedron and also i worked up opposite tavern and breakfast creek...in an outboard / and small engines shop.. there is nothing on earth less forgiving than salt water followed by air......I can tell you that even my own dad once lost his outboard off the back of the boat hitting a sand bar...and was unable to refind it that day...with the help of grand dad and myself and brothers..we hooked the thing some 2 months later...and threw it in a carbage bin of fresh water to bring home..
my dad /grand dad and i stripped every part down of that outboard a 25 hp evinrude... we left it in water till be broke down and once we started we did not stop till we had it to pieces....we then dropped every part that was metal into dads diesel/kero/fisholine mix and some parts when into the cola cola and salt mix..
we washed and buffed every part..
coils where placed in glass box's and left outside in the sun for 7 days...
and any other wiring and electrics..
on day 7 i brought home from work all the new gaskets and new plugs...
The engine was rebuilt on sunday and running in the tank (44) for 1hr on..and 10 mins off for 4 hrs...
That same engine looked after dad for 10 years...and i had it for another 8 after and only every replaced empeller...and spark plugs
and my dad replaced the magie on it once!
Now at the redcliffe / sandgate/breaky creek / dams all over aussie i hlped poor soles who had a issue with lost outboards or dunken the motor due to misguided river crossing or missed the wave in a bar crossing..
    2 stokes and four strokes...
in the navy i seen the same thing done to sub engine that flooded when a seal let go big time...and my dads seen same thing in a tug..

yes your right...often the rings will let go often...and lets face it a 230k engine is no baby to start with...
however i seen red x trials when i was kid and stp trials...
and i seen super hypo oil in racing stuff..having messed with a few forms myself..
and i can tell you that nylon and science made oils and aditives are brilliant...
and can coat the bore and rings really well more than 2-3 000th and i dont know what size oil ring is in the this engine..i believe holdens use 2 and 3 mm..
    i hope mine is 3mm..
i keen too to see what compression it throws at first.....after its first road test...and later.....if i wanted to edge my bets i throw the penrite and top quailty in it or nylon coat it..but i not going to ..because i dont know if there grooves in the bore or compression rings etc..or oil rings..

i just going to wait it out...and see ....

i here your story and i seen engines left sitting do the same..without water invasion..
and i seen engines built too tight that have had major issues..

i was told by a mechanic a few years back a ecotec is like 3.3 litre old holden...
built solid...and these engines had been built for super chargers /turbos and lpg
    as a factory fit...

i wont be running e10 in it...or lpg so no over hot fuels..and it dont have turbo or supercharger....so it be using standard unleaded...
and we see what we will see........
from i can see holden engines in v6 dont last much longer than 300k--450k
and only taxi's get good milage from them from less stop and and starts...
and hey a short block from the wreckers from 550---750...is best way to go if this dies anyway...

flood damaged engines have other issues...
like if it sucked in water ..while runnings its had overload of internal pressure...so strong it blow out the dizzy and crack the engine anywhere..
while it trried to compress water..
usually that why they die..once stopped people try and start them without draining everything first...like exhaust/chambers sump air intake..etc..etc..

i know we tried to submarine a car ourselves when caught in a road flooding and could not stop due following truckies and no where to go but river swimming if we took off the road..we hit a puddle at 100kms..that was 200mm deep..
and we snapped a timing chain and blew a dizzy out of a nissan pintara because its scope for air intake was so low...
My word of warning to cai boys...if you get a puddle that you hit over 100mmm and its water rammed into the intake....say good bye to the engine!
remeber this...any water you hit over 100mm or over your exhaust outlet is not a road side assistance ..but a insurance claim..
and whoever your with like racq..and the like will tell you that.
i dont mine ram air....but go to the wreckers and buy a spare bonnet...
and make a top bonnet air ram...your better and safer...
and anyone with a below the engine cai has placed a giant straw on the engine..

Anyway...bob..we see tomorrow...flood water is ment to be donw and gone tomorrow..and i be doing the tighten spark plug and fill fuel tank up and checking old faithfull...on the road...

Thanks for your remarks and input m8
