    Default No Aircon

    Hey all,

I have a VT and the Air con has sht itself in the past 5 or so months, but the heater works fine. I was told that the A/C compressor needed replacing but I having he's trying to take me for a ride. Is it true that a leaking heater tap would also affect cooling and how do you tell if its leaking? I want to try the cheaper fix first before i fork out 500 for a new compressor.

    Hey Mate.

I Would say the compressor is stuffed from what you have said.
As for the leaking heater tap, if its still open, you will have hot water going to the heater core just as if you turned the heater on, so it will be heating up the car. Heater taps are quite cheap to just replace anyway.

Can you here the compressor click on when the AC is pressed?

If It clicks on, and takes strain on the car, the compressor may still be working, I would take it to a aircon specialist if you don't trust the mechanic.

Oh and also check for the passenger side Thermo fan kicks in as thats the aircon fan.

Loads of info on this thread I started a few weeks back mate. VT/VX take the same aircompressor.

VX Aircompressor - Dead.. Will a VZ aircompressor fit/work?

Turns out you can get them much cheaper on eBay and even on forums like this! I picked up a second hand one for $85.

    Fitting + Gassing ~ $350

Thanks mate. I can get 1 at trade price for $300 and $190 for fitting and regas. Was just hoping it was a cheaper fix, something small, something other than the compressor hahaha. Well thats cars for ya.
