G'day guys, im sure there is a thread out there somewhere for this but I just cant find it!
I just got my VT S1 S pack and i need to do a few things for roady...
One of the the things is to fix up the brake light on the rear wing... some of the LEDs are out. Does anyone know if you can take it off and just replace the LEDs? Or do you have to buy a new light (which is like $85)?
Other things for roadworthy... does anyone know if you can get your headlights polished? The insides are fogged up and it asks to rectify them.
Also, does anyone know places that polish windscreens?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers
woow....i be visiting a wreckers...first point of call...
and you can do the light ..front light..its fogged up because it has moisture in it..water...cause it leaks when gets wet or washed...and it can be leaking in anywhere...
if its got the blown foggiing look...that different that from a light goin bang...and prob a hid unit ro someone who placed too big a high /low bulb in it...that will take replacing...
and sealing job if your lazy could best done replacing too you just need to check the light alignment
when done...
polish windscreen....you can buff them your self...but what is dull from?
scale
scum
stain
abrasive
grooved...like from windscreen wipers that someone forgot the rubbers and grooved it..what...
i new windscreen is like 190 bucks or wreckers usually sell for 50-70 and you need a fitter for 120
i hope this helps...![]()
Hey mate, some brake lights if not all just unscrew with a couple of phillips screws, some bulbs can be replaced in some of the but others cant. Have a look on ebay for another brake light for your spoiler or ring a few wrecking yards, they may have a damaged spoiler with a brake light they can sell you cheap. If your headlights are fogged up on the inside it usually indicates a leak in the headlight causing moisture to enter it. For plastic headlights i have always just used a cutting compound to polish them up with an electric buffer, this has always worked for me & is what we do at work as well. If its inside, carefully remove all the clips around the headlight, then carefully prie the lense away from the body of the headlight. Dont, whatever you do touch the reflective lense. For the windscreen, just ring a few windscreen places & see what they can do for you. I know there use to be a glass polish available that was used for things like glass vases etc so have a look at a cleaning supply company.
Hope this helps, the issues they failed you on are really minor so dont stress, some places may have just passed you with advice to fix these minor things. Good luck
Windscreen wise... apparently a small rock was at the end of one wiper blade and it did just one rotation and has left a small groove...
Headlights are just fogged up on the inside from residue, is it hard to polish them? No need to get new headlights?
They also pinned me for 4 new tyres, uni joints, steering rack, engine mounts and some gaskets... so I have an expensive week ahead of me! haha
rear tail led light fix= replace or remove....
front headlamps fogged= replace or remove and check glass sealed to the plastic then cut polish glass the polish glass or SOME people put a small breather hole in an inconspicous place to let water evaporate out be VERY careful though
windscreen wiper marked glass fix= Glass can be cut polished only if light cut on glass e'g' fingernail doesn't catch in cut, polish can be ordered through most windscreen shops or specialist detailing websites
Hope this helps
for engine seals sometimes bolt's come loose with time and vibration, try tightening them especially the majority of valley seals and rocker cover gaskets then wash thoroughly before revisiting rwc issuer he is supposed to drive it then check for leaks anyway...

when you say replace or remove... do you mean remove the whole wing? or remove the light and see if it can be fixed?
cheers
Remove the light & see if it has removable bulbs,if not ring the wreckers. Engine mounts, steering rack can all be replaced by yourself as can gaskets if you handy with a spanner. A handy tip, whenever you go in for a roadworthy give everything mechanical a good degrease & steamclean. The amount of times this simple thing has helped pass a roadworthy is unbelievable. If everything looks clean with no leaks apparent it should pass. A can of black spraypaint is handy as well. I failed on rear shocks leaking once(vehicle to me was still safe,no excessive bounce),cleaned the shocks while on the car then gave it flick of black spraypaint, instant pass![]()
thanks for that advice... the motor was dirty as all hell cause the previous owner just didnt care
i went down to the car wash with a couple cans of degreaser and pressure hosed it... looks 100 times better, maybe it will pass now that its not so dirty.
to me, the steering is fine, i dont understand why it needs replacing.
cheers
Have a check of the rack boots as well, that could be a reason they failed it but they would have told you if this was the case, normally. but usually because its covered in oil they assume theres a leak. when heated oil gets on rubber components it causes the rubber to become hard, brittle & perissh. good luck with the roady dude
bit of a late reply...
had the car checked out by a couple of people who know cars fairly well, they figured out that the front headlights just have a grubby residue on the outside of them... does anyone know a good product to use on it to get rid of it?
also, they looked under the car, absolutely filthy, maybe they saw an old leak and thought the steering rack needed to be replaced. the people who look at the steering found that there was a little bit of slack in the wheel, but not a huge amount, should it be a problem then?
and lastly, ive decided to just replace the wing brake light, but for the sake of a few extra dollars i might get a completely different wing. does anyone know where i can get an SS or clubby wing for the vt? preferably in bermuda blue, but otherwise i will repaint it. it needs to have the brake light working though.
cheers
when u gave it a degrease & steamclean did you do underneath as well??? just use a cutting compound & a bit of water for the headlight lense with a heap of elbow grease. with slack in the wheel you are allowed a certain amount before its failed. just commodores wreckers is down your way or have a look on ebay, there is a brake light up for sale there. last i looked it was $5. also look for spoilers as well
gday,
nah i just did a quick engine bay job, when I get the engine mounts fitted and uni joints replaced ill get the car up on a jack and do underneath properly with degreaser. cutting compound like the stuff you buy for cutting and polishing paint?
engine mounts are going in tomorrow,
just got a brand new genuine light for 60 bucks buy it now... i need it soon, and when i want to change the wing at least i will know the LED works.
im hoping for a VX SS wing or maybe even a manta one? not sure yet, i want something different or bigger than the series 1 s pack wing.
cheers
Yeap, just the stuff you polish you car with or even jarsh anything harsh without scratchingjust ring a few wrecking yards as well for your spoiler.
Places like Autobarn & Supercheap sell headlight polishing kits. They're like $10 or something and work well.
thats for that guys, ill get right onto it
cheers
