Hi, Ive found a VT Exectuive for sale, everything with it looks fine except the fuel guage doesnt work. How hard is it likely to be to fix, or would it be easier to get a dealer to fix it? Any estimatews on price for the repair also?
Cheers
im also interested to find out about this, my fuel gauge always shows as full... maybe its the fuel sender?
my vs calais fuel guage stopped working. I took into auto eleco today. Diagnosed as faulty fuel sender unit. Told me $320 for a genuine one and $77 for an hours work. He said I could try my luck with one from the wreckers, he'll put it in.
So I'm going to ring around tomorrow for a second hand one with maybe some sort of warranty
vt's have a fuel pump module(fuel pump and gauge sender in one) you can take the pump out to replace the pump but not vice versa, you need to relace the module. gmh will charge you about $680(not fitted) for a genuine one. i have a non-genuine one brand new for sale if you interested. this one comes out of the same factory, just hasn't got the"GM" sticker on it. $250 posted anywhere in australia.12 months warranty.
Found a vs fuel sender unit (without pump) at the wreckers $35 with two month warranty. car booked in tomorrow to have it fitted.
I had the fuel pump replaced about 8 months ago, I'm thinking that the sender unit may have been disturbed for it to pack it in so soon after the pump let go. OR maybe just a coincident? who knows!
The auto eleco looked a bit closer at the job saw the car has a tow bar and decided it was too hard for him or more to the point did'nt want to do the job. I'll find some one soon. Anyone knows of a good mechanic around Thornton or East Maitland NSW let me know.
PS I could have a go but a bit over fixing them these days.
Daryl Malone in Melbourne St East Maitland knows his way around most cars and is quite reasonably priced. 49331944
