Hi I have a SII VT SS Feb/00
The ECU/BCM has become faulty and needs replacing, and we have also lost the keys during a move to a new house (the car was towed as it doesnt start, and the keys were put in a safe place, but now lost) What needs to be done?
Can we just get a new/second hand ECU/BCM from the wreckers and go to Holden with the number from the ECU/BCM and get them to program a new remote to it?
We have been quoted $150 for a new remote + programmed
and $220 for a second hand ECU/BCM
Do we need to get the car to Holden for them to program it?
Also There is a number near the glove box SV008I or something... what is this number??
Check out my VP
Wanted to Buy VP Front & Rear Bar/Bumpers
Befor we can offer any advice we must be clear on what needs replacing as the ECU and BCM are 2 different things. The ECU is the engine computer and controls the engine and the BCM is the body control module which controls things like power windows, immobiliser, central locking etc.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
im guessing your talking about the bcm if you need to get your keys programmed to it,
with the bcm in my case i have a l67 so it may be different to an ss, but i had to get the numbers from the case of the bcm and tell the place i was getting it from so they could get a matching unit,
so im pretty sure it not a matter of grabbing any module and chucking it in
and yes when a new bcm is put in it will need to either be taken to holden and with there tech 2 they will reprogramme it, or if u know of a mechanic with a scanner capable of doing it, go to them it will be cheaper,
had this issue with a car i bought to re sell
go to wrecker find a bcm/ecm combination that is similar to yours .wrecker will at least supply one key ,plug everything in and the car will start ..i had to replace the barrel as well as i had no key
bit of mucking around but not difficult
do NOT turn the ignition on without first re installing the wheel or you will set your airbag light off !
