Hi guys
Yesterday I went to the mechanic to get an injector clean and new plugs. I asked him to check for any error codes that might be recorded also. None were found except for Error Code 85, which from what I read on JC Forums and what he told me is the transmission slipping.
He cleared the code, took it for a drive and rechecked for error codes, but none showed up. I do plan to get the auto transmission serviced very soon. But what I would like to know from you out there who have had this error is this:
As long as you drive sensibly (not spanking it, in other words) should I be ok till I get around to a service? Or is it something where the auto could die-in-the-arse at any moment?
I mean, the code has probably been there for a while and the car runs ok (mind you, auto is a little jerky between 2nd and 3rd). He also mentioned something about a solenoid in the transmission. Does anyone know what this solenoid does?
Sorry, Ive been driving manuals for nearly 20 years but had to get an auto this time around so I know virtually zip about them.
Any news will be welcome. Thanks
You should be fine to keep driving it. I had code 85 and drove around for ages without a problem. I ended up trading that car in so I never did get it fixed. I thing that solenoid changes the gears from second to third.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Hey Stencil
Funny you say that coz thats when the tranny gets a little jerky between 2nd and 3rd. Do you have any idea how much it would be to replace that solenoid? If you don't know, that's cool, just trying to prepare my wallet!!!hahaha
shouldn't cost too much for a solenoid about $50 but the labor will be about $200 LOL so maybe look at doing it yourself
