G'day everyone,
I hope you can help me- my wife is driving a 99 VT commodore. It's only got 149,000k's (per the odometer) and it's started cutting out both at take off occasionally, but mostly at 60k's plus. I was thinking maybe fuel filter, except for that fact that if you put your foot into the accelerator when it happens it seems to accelerate fine. I'd think it'd bog more if you opened the accelerator while it was happening. I've been in the car when it happens, and the motor is definitely cutting out...
Any suggestions? Are there any common problems with the VTs that could cause this?
Thanks in advance,
Vic
Had a mate with a car doing something similar to this, but can't remember exactly what it was...
We worked it out to be something spark related (it wouldn't have spark when we cranked it). If you left the car for a while and came back to it, it would start/drive fine for a while but would come back.
Does it cut out completely/stall then not start? or just splutter a bit?
Does it do it mainly when its warm? Or at random times?
Have you changed the leads/plugs recently or ever? Do they need doing? lol,
If they've been done at one stage, then I'd probly try either the Crank Angle Sensor or the Coil Packs, on my friends car it was one of those (I think he replaced both anyway?)
