Hi everybbody,
I have a VX series 2 and I have this nocking soundand vibration in the engine, wich increases with accelrating, it is realy annoying because the engine is getting noisy and it is shaking the whole car, went three mechanics and the first two said that I have abroken bearing in the join of the connecting road and the piston and the third one said it is the engine mounts, my car is all stock nothing have been replaced and one more thing, I live in iraq so we don't have a thing such "service" you only go to the mechanic when somthing wrong happens, I changed the spark plugs (GM) and dropped the oil (which I change regularily) and put new one and changed the oil filter but still the same, the to mechanics who told me about a broken bearing said that it's better to replace the whole engine, any idea about my problem would be realy appriciated.
It is possibly the engine mounts so the beast thing to do is check them by getting under the car and see if the sump is rubbing on anything and also see if the rubber part of the mounts are split. Another way to check is to start the engine, put it in drive and with your foot on the brake, accelerate a bit and see if the engine moves excessively.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
thanks for the reply mate, I did what you've said and I can see the engine moves nicely to the right side although I believe that my engine mounts are more of a dry (harsh) because for so long Ican feel the engine's vibration in the car (the steering wheel and the interior) but now it sounds like somthing is hitting somthing inside the engine making the constant nocking noise which gets more as I accelerate.
Hi ahmedomnnea
Did you fix that bad fuel economy you had a while back?
Never heard anything about that...
Come to think of it now:
-If you had leaky injectors (dirty injectors), you could have a some fuel dilution of the oil.
Basically this means unburnt fuel (too rich mixture) leaking past the piston-rings contaminating the oil, this could potentially damage the engine bearings causing it to knock.
See if you can smell a distinct fuel smell in your oil...
-Or... if your engine was already on the way out it would have picked up the knock in the engine (that would not have been picked up by the ear) and backed off you ignition and this caused lack of performance and high fuel consumption.
Hope its your engine mounts though
BTW to clear someting up: Do your first two mechanics mean that a conrod bearing in your engine has worn out? (conrod connects piston to crankshaft)

Hi bozz,
thanx for asking and replying, I still have the same issue with the fuel economy and now it's the nocking engine, I believe I will go to baghdad next week to check the wreckers and try to get another engine, do you think that it's gonna solve my fuel economy problem? because I think that I will never be able to sort this out, man these holden cars are like an impposible puzzle when it comes to fuel economy problems, I've searched this forum and noticed that whoever has got this problem, had no solution, once it has a bad fuel economy thats it, it can't be fixed.
Mate
could be worth a try My battery ran dead flat and everything was mucking up as for fuel and idle well say no more
Disconnect battery try and start for 10 seconds to drain any alarm backups etc
reconnect and start keeping revs over 2500 for around 2-3 minutes and presto my problems were solved
hope it works for you
Cheers
thanx mate,
tried that like six months ago, still the same bad economy.
Hi mates,
today I went a mechanic who told me that I have a cracked fly wheel and It seems a blievable thing, few months ago a friend of mine who has a 2006 toyota corolla and he had a cracked fly wheel and it sounded almost the same with my VX, only in the corolla the nocking and the vibration were lauder and stronger, so could a cracked fly wheel cause such a noise and vibration? your feedback is highly appreciated.
it sounds like your engine needs a transplant....if you hunbt the wreckers down where you are...you find they will fit a engine for you and take out your hunk of junk...you be looking at $1150 or so...and for that you get old out...new in and new oil and filter and new rear seal and coolant ..if you got some gear on the other worth keeping like new plugs or new spark plug leads etc..or altenator keep them,...engine knocks dont go away!
and its either flywheel knock and it get harder to start,,, or bottom engine knock and one day it wont do anything...and you cn solve all its issues with injection etc..by getting a swapped long motor

local mechanics can spin your wheels for ages...getting money from you...
so go change the engine.....for something newer with lower milage vt/vx and sort it
ok m8
had a problem similar to this in my vx but recently sold it as too much of a hassle and money to fix it..
