    Default Ping!!!

hey my engine pings!!! not good. i've been told to change from the normal unleaded fuel to the vortex stuff...u reckon that'll help? or does my car need tuning now that i have a 10psi pulley?it just got put on today.i noticed a noise a while ago but just thought it was a slipping belt.the mechanic told me to watch out for pinging n so i had a real hard listen when i went for a drive later on n now it's real apparent. thoughts would be appreciated

sorry people i don't know the technical term. someone could probably explain it better than me but basically what happens is fuel gets injected and ignites above the pitsons prematurely. sounds like someone throwing a handful of gravel at you engine.

Technically it's called Detonation, take some timing out of it.

Go put some premium unleaded (98) in before you take it to a tuner.. The stock tune should have enough scope in it, provided you use good fuel..

detonation, that's right.cool cool, as soon as i get rid of the old fuel i'll put the good stuff in. deliberately drove half a tank today LOL. but ye a mate of mine did the same thing and he didn't need to tune it at all. but then again when he did it it was like 5 years ago when they probably weren't putting as much crap in the fuel. thanks for the help.

Your car is an L67 with a 10psi pulley on it right. Easiest thing to do is just to run it on BP 98 (Ultimate) all the time. Will stop the detonation and is what you will need to put in every time to keep the super 6 happy.

You can either run less timing, better fuel or less boost. Or get a cooler
