    Default VT overheating

Just wondering what could be the problem with my VT overheating. The radiator and overflow chamber are full of coolant. On a few occasions after a short while on the freeway from Adelaide the "hot" message comes up on the dash. Coolant is spewing out from the area under the overflow chamber. Once cooled down am able to drive on. Can anyone advise/ offer help please.
Paranoia is slowly creeping in every time I get on the freeway.

    Check:

    - there is no air trapped in the system
    - you don't have milky oil
    - there are no leaks
    - you have no blockages in the system (flush with HP air)
    - you are using the correct coolant
    - your fans come on at the correct temp (on at 104°C, off at 99°C)
    - your belt is tight and doesn't slip

    Replace:
    - radiator cap with an OEM one (aftermarket ones are crap)
    - thermostat
    - water pump

As VT owner says above but be careful with high pressure air too high and you may cause some damage. Also make sure you are using the correct concentration of coolant? I recall seeing a post here where the whole impeller had corroded off a water pump.

Overflow bottle overflowing at temperature generally means there's a pressure problem. quickest and cheapest first step is to get a genuine Holden radiator cap for that specific model. Either a dealership or Coventrys will have them.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere

    Default VT overheating

Thanks for the replies. The other thing that ive just remembered that might have a bearing on my overheating problem is that i notice that the car seems sluggish when trying to overtake on the incline.
    Any advice much appreciated.

ok slipping clutch if its a man transmission or big bucks if an auto....if its an auto when was is late full service..as in drain and replace tranny filter and check adjustment...do that first before you try and replce a auto from the wreckers and yes drain the car of water and radiator and open the car heater ...so you can flush the heater core out seperately...first...then flush the engine,,,,then remove the rad and flush from every direction you can with water and air if you have it...and flush and clean the overfiller tank.....now with everything flushed.........buy a can of rad flush....and put it all back and fill with rad flushing and take it on a short ...slow speed run around the bloick for say 30mions or so..watching everything! ...take extra water in case..:} ,,,now when you get it home after the run.......drop if all out and do the same as before...all as before...yes i know ..sounds painful but...then when done......fill it with 1/2 water and 1/2 coolant........and try that...
now try all that after you had a auto tranny service or had the clutch checked on the man tranny...and see..... cars will overheat if there slipage from engine to tranny...also if brakes are dragging....also if engine is sick.....also if water pump or thermo is crap....or also if air bubble in system of rad and hoses...

    hope this helps..
