Hey I'm looking at buying this car soon, as the title suggests, is it a requirement to use premium, what would happen if you used regular? Downsides and upsides for both?? Also what is the fuel economy difference between the super6 and the 6 under 'normal/light' driving conditions?
Thanks
-Chris
the super 6 has a air bypass valve so that when u are putting around it doesn't use boost so you basically get the same fuel consumption as a N/A v6...not sure on the fuel side of things. i know for 10psi upgrade you need 98octane...
I think 95 octane is recommend for the supercharged V6, the non S/C V6 in standard trim just needs 91octane fuel, that said however I think the supercharged one will still run on 91 and won't be damaged in any way as long as you leave it standard.
Yeah dude just use 98. It's just so much better
Unfortunately for the L67 supercharged V6 it has to run on 95 minimum and because it is a boosted motor using 91 under any boost is asking for trouble.
As said above the SC does have a boost bypass but that is for little or no throttle so that when any boost is used like accelerating using 91 will have the engine ecu pulling timing out to try and prevent engine destroying detonation.
Unlike the LSx engines in VT onwards which can run anything from 91-98 on the stock tune (even HSV's)

why wouldnt u use 98 ,unless u couldnt get it at the pump u were at anyways ,no matter what car .bore water or spring water,,what would u drink?
I wouldn't use it unless it was all I could buy because in a car that isn't designed for 98 it's of no benefit and a waste of money?? I've just put E10 in my non S/C VY for the first time and haven't noticed any difference in the car's power and economy so far. Pretty soon in NSW it's only going to be E10 or premium available.
well the say minimum for a reason im guessin , meaning anything above is better for it . put wat u want in it its your car but its oobvious it would be better for the car,, its not exactly all about u getting better performance or econemy its about respecting machinerys requirments and giving it a little beter than it just requires so at a time or falure u know its let u down not that u have actualy let it down , my opinion only and not saying that to be some sort of richoes fck.
The supercharged v6 will run on 92 octane if it is a standard unmodified engine but it will drink fuel and smell of exhaust fumes. When i first bought mine i thought there was something wrong with it because i could smell exhaust fumes every time i got out of the car to open the shed door and it was using 21l per 100Km around town. I filled the tank up with 95 octane when it was almost empty and my fuel economy improved to 16l per100Km and i couldn't smell exhaust fumes anymore when i got out of the car. The engine is very sensitive to different fuels. I seem to get best economy out of 98 octane BP. 95octane BP is about the same as 98 octane Shell and i only use the crap that Woolworths sell if they are almost giving it away because even their Premium isn't much good in my car and it was their 92 octane that made my car thirsty on fuel. I tried Mobil E10 and could notice less power and fuel economy was about 2l per 100 Km worse than running Shell 95 octane.
It will still run fine normal driving.. just feel a little sluggish and use a little bit more juice
You dont NEED to run 95 and you dont need 98 if you run 10psi,
at the end of the day an extra 5 bucks at the pump is worth the extra poke
