I have a slight auto gearbox issue. I have no second gear at all. All the other gears including reverse work perfect, so it's not a band.
When I drive, first is fine, then shifts to 2nd but acts like it's in neutral, a back off the throttle and it goes into 3rd fine, and 4th works fine as well.
If it downshifts into 2nd it will act like it is in neutral, but if I back off it goes back into 3rd or 4th gear.
I read somewhere that it could be the servo or something. Any ideas would be appreciated.
it would just be better getting a 5spd
i have the same problem man... stupid question but did you frequently hold it flat 1st to 2nd then back off for the speed limit??? ill keep an eye on your thread.. i got quoted to get mine rebuilt locally the other day 2000 approx...

I just got the car a month ago and it came with the problem, but judging by the previous owner it may have been driven like that.
I got a quote a few weeks ago for a rebuilt gearbox fitted for $1600.
It's weird coz I checked out all the troubleshooting posts for the 4L60-e but it's not a single one of them. The auto gearbox guy said if it has no 2nd AND 4th and maybe reverse then it is the sunshell, but obviously it's not that.
My bro said it could be a bad solenoid, does that sound right?
Wow, this is exactly the same problem I had last week!
Turned out to be the shift solenoid, which had buggered the band and drum. Just because you still have fourth doesn't mean it hasn't done the band.
Mine cost $1300 to repair. They put in new 3-4 clutches, wider bands and a new drum. Rebuilt the pump, new solenoids (heavy duty) and upped the pressures.

not sure about solanoid... soz... if you keep it free reving and hold the revs does it eventally grab???
thats wat mine does it seems like there is a clutch sometimes it just takes forever to engage and then when it does its outa there lol... when i drive i hav to boot first really hard to get up to bout 40kph so it will go into third because wen it free revs in second theres a tappy sound out of the top end now..it sux because of this now my motor is makin a tappy noise-iv already changed oil n filter. just bought a comp cam lifters n springs n yella terra rockers so im hoping once i get all this sorted it will be gud again.. if you dont mind me askin were did ya get your quote??? as i got quoted 2000 dollars (warwick qld)if i take it out and drop it in...have you asked a transmission specialist to read the faults??? i asked the local trans place wat might be wrong with mine and we went for a drive then he plugged in his fault reader and to my dismay no signal he said... he siad it could be a solanoid but he couldn say for certian till he pulled it to bits... so im figuring prob best to get mine fully rebuilt.. im just thiking maybe hes a bit pricey... but then again it could be a well done professional job... arrrgggghhhh!!!! wish i new more about transmissions....
Not to sure on that, it does grab if it is over 40kph, but I think that is third gear, or I have to slow down so it goes back in first, or manually shift back to first, then up to third.
I got my quote in a small town called echuca in victoria, he has a rebuilt box sitting there for $1000, $600 to fit.
Havn't had anyone read any faults, but I highly doubt anything will show up as the check engine light should come on if it picks up a fault with the gearbox as well, and mine is clear.
The guy I went to is sure it is a band or sunshell, but that is without even seeing the car, so I don't know about that. I just don't have any cash at the moment let alone 1 and a half grand so the cheapest potential fix is what I will be looking at first, don't really want to have to pull it apart just yet.
