I have read a few threads from here, thanks to google. I just wanna get clarification before I waste some $$ though.
I can use a tailshaft from any auto VT-VY (VZ ??) commodore the only thing I would have to (appears) do is pop the rear uni joint out of both shafts and swap the end pieces over between them that bolts up to the diff.
I have read the yoke has to be changed. Is the yoke the end piece on the tailshaft that I am talking about removing and swapping above.
I feel like an idiot. I now see after looking at a pic of a VX-VY tailshaft that there is no uni joint in the area I was thinking there was one...there is none. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and finally put the brand new from holden LSD 3.46 VX diff in now as well.
I keep seeing people sprouting off that if you put a VX + diff in a VT you need to change the tailshaft as well. Is that a 100% guarantee that it goes into the gearbox without changing anything and also bolts up to the floor in the same spot as the VT one as well.
you can swap the tailshaft mount on the front of the diff from vt to vx vy etc by undoing the nut on the front of the diff.
Sorry you have lost me can you ellaborate a little more. I was refering to the the bracket at the centre bearing.
I guess the best question I should ask. If I use a tailshaft from a VY and a diff from a VX will everything bolt up into a VT and I will not have any unforseen issues, like mounting brackets not lining up or gearbox spline mismatches. I would assume seeing as the 460le are used in the VY's the spline mismatch should be a non issue.
I am going to the wreckers tomorrow to buy a VY tailshaft and don't want to get the car up on stands, diff and shaft out and then find a headache popped up.
The only thing you have to worry about is that some cars use uni joints on each end of the tailshaft and some use rubber couplings. See which one you have and get the same type.
