Hey guys, Just brought myself a 2001 Holden VX Spac "I'll have a thread soonish "show off your ride" But I've got a question, Some of My mates, My parents, And a few others all have VT / VX's and the standard CD player that comes with it, Now.... I'm not overly keen on it at all, And Want something with, Bluetooth, GPS, Maybe TV If i can be bothered to put the arial up, And a few other things, I've found one on ebay "I've found 2, 1 with gps and 1 without, They are pretty cheap, Roughly $250 - $350, I'm not an audio phobe And I've gone through the wanting loud music stage.
Now I'm wondering How easy is it too fit this new dvd players? Is it pretty much D/C your old one, take it out, And slide the other one in and plug it in? What else is needed? Are they a pretty nice fit?
In fact, If anyone has any pictures it would be great too see them please! It's going to probably be a 7" system When I get one, I'll show you the 2 I'm looking at..

That's the one without GPS and this is the one with:

I'm not after the best, It will be my first dvd player, I probably wont ever use the dvd player side of things, It's just the fact it won't be the normal one, I can use GPS, I can use bluetooth, etc etc.....
Thank you very much.

ok link 1 ...item is only analog tv....tuner so that runs out this year..and you view nothing...
if there is the option it mentions for digital tv tuner ...have that fitted...the rest it looks good and should not be a issue..
number 1 also has no gps.....which i recon is better as a speerate unit for removal and hiding
but has a reverse camera option..very handy for inside as well as outside..like caravan or boat......
has good amp power
link 2.....has got gps...a bonus....
also can have rear camera or camera use ..bonus...
has good amp power..
prob the same comes with analog tv tuner and you need to pay extra for digital...
in any case get the digital tv option...
both read good dvd organge book standards....meaning formats
both units look the goods
its funny you should make a post about this ..because since i redone my vt...and got back active
i been thinking the same thing...
tv/dvd/bluethooth/gps or not...
2 din unit....
as i said i opt for seperate gps........and only take it if it came with the unit i picked..
it be good to throw cops off about viewing tv. dvd/with the inbuilt maps...
given the unit in the front
dont forget the unit are ment too be wired so dvd/tv in them dont work when car is running or driving...
due to safety...
but that safety could be grounded...disabled...
in all i like both...
if you get one before i get around to getting one or if someone has 1 with the gsp and digital tuner fitted i like to see them post info in here...
in all josheh...i am the same as you dont need ear bashing....sound...
just player that players quality...
i like the tv and dvd....
and rear camera i have a rear camera in the car.....and prob fit a camera in the boat ..so when towing i could see out boat..
and when not towing i could see the rear...
i think you asked a top question and post m8...on ya
![]()
Thanks mate, I agree 100% I'll probably research a few days maybe a week or so and decide on one then, Reason why I'm opting for gps built in is that I dont need to spend an extra $$ on one, So it's just a solid good package for what I like.
ok m8 but make sure the tv is ditigal tuner...remeber analog runs out this year...
i see your point on the gps..and as i said harder to proove you wathced a tv or dvd in the front when you can bring up a gps..for cops...
and personally i have a switch to ground so safety feature can be on or off for the most snooty of cops...
and make sure i showed the cop see no tv or dvd while engine on or running ..if asked...if he sees the gps and dont believe...
i recon they slot in just fine...
i recon you may go to a radio shop of jb/supercheap of whatever and get a uni adapter for vt harness...
so you can unplug the old uint...and put back any time...
and you plug in the uni joiner and wire it to the new unit...
all clean and tidy wiring..and when you swap cars the units are easy to swap out...
and yes see if someone else has had one and tried them...
the digitial antenna
goes in the back screen outside usually 2 of them..and digital can flow and hold channel on the go better...
keep me posted via this post on what you find out m8

i just installed
7" LCD IN DASH CAR GPS DVD PLAYER Digital TV DVB-T BAS3 - eBay Monitors, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 02-Apr-10 21:30:14 AEDST)
to vx calais and works great . has digital tv gps etc etc . wiring loom has in ISO plug so look around.. 15$ will buy you a commy vt-vx to ISO adapter.as codeunknown stated simply plug in to car and to iso on stereo and your DONE .advantage with this unit is gps software can easily be changed as it runs a windows ce 5.0 operating system . . fits really nice into dash too.
HEY codeunknown tell me more bout this dual antennae thing as i find MY tv bit shitty in some areas(namely mine)
Im looking at the same thing here in the UK. The standard radio is shockingly basic.... I have found alot of the cheap units are well packed with software but lacks screen clarity and can be clunky at times due to the inhouse software.
Im looking at the Pioneer offerings and JVC. Im still looking and hope to find something. The meos are good units but again poor screens.
ok there is a load of digital antenna 's out there for mobile on the go...
shapes......boomerang /flying saucer / a loop/ a round cyclinder /then standard pole...(which are usually made up from 2 to 4 poles)
Now everyone of these has there good and bad points.most of them try not to be directional better in 1 direction than others...
As you would want that...as perfered feature...
There also digital signal boosters that run off 12v....and some cars may need one....
here is a few to look at...
Low-Key Antenna For Car TV - Smarthouse
car tv antenna, Cars, Bikes, Boats, Electronics, Computers items at low prices on eBay.com.au
HiTV Communications Integrated in car entertainment solution, digital TV GPS DVD headrest
read this....
DTV Forum Australia - Australia's Leading Digital TV and AV Forum > How To Improve Digital Tv Reception In Car?
i hope that steers you the right way
and meat762.....
i checked out your new toy....it was the one i looked at off ebay....it looks the goods big time....
and it has its simple upright antenna for tv...and i think its a rubber duckie...meaning it flexs a little and you find its a loaded base
coil...as well.......
they usually have 2 options.....
mount inside near a window..like the rear or front.....
or
mount on the roof.....magnet base or suck cap base
dont laugh there a good antenna.....but dont do so well on the move at speed in areas..
this brings us to the point of where is the best point for antenna....
well on the roof is the prime location...
its omi directional..
it uses the same earth point and reflective
it has no obstructions
its away from other noise signals...
where is the 2nd best ............the boot or bonnet level...and if you can get the ant working height over the roof height from that point ..then its just as good..
where is the 3rd best ...would mena using an array....4 antenna's set up as 1 and place all of equal height at each corner of the car...
then 2 antenna array mid mounted to cover equally frnt and rear....
then every other point is just as good or bad....
this works for mobil phones / gps / gps trace and track / tv analog or digital / fm / am / cb radios /professional band /military band radios.....etc...etc...on cars/bikes...trucks...tanks...boats....etc..etc..
the problem is often the best position for the antenna ..stuffs looks and secret of having it and limits where it can be parked ..etc..etc..etc..
so you have to give a little with the install.....
in the end its finding the best match for system you have...there will be antenna's that really work with the units..and others that dont...
so we need to find people who played with systems...but have tried or found by chance a tv ant for digial that works at speed...
and see what brands or shapes come up...
allot will have old tv tuners analogs...and even recently ..because there never been so cheap...
but there not the go...
and digital and analog antennas are different beasts...set for different range...
but we will see what we dig up in the post....
![]()
yeah It's a magnetic jobby and not rubber but a screw off plastic antannae. i ran both gps and tv into door seal by passenger kick panel and around door frame ,came out at middle pillar and onto roof .both right next to each other .like i said some areas r good but burwood in melb is pretty bad (WHERE I LIVE) think a booster might be the go.
a booster would help.....
but there are digital tuners...and digital tuners...
there are top state tuners ..which scan for a stronger channel...your own while keeping your channel in tune...
there is also a simual system..but it tunes to field strenght....meaning you could have 2 equal directions...and it only take one...
when it looses that it then hunts for ..scans a close by up and down of its target point...
i can explain it better this way ..in fm radio terms...
during the day we get locals ........and the most powerful skip stations are low...
so we may get fm106.7 and be lissening to alice coper sesions..
as the night falls...
less noise from busy day ..clears pathways ..and the increase of density of atmosphere provides weker channels..skip stations to come in...and we here some stronger than locals...
so we here 106.9 107.1..... and both are not sister stations to 106.7 so are not putting out same program or same songs at the same time..
then we also get some sister channels we hear .1 off up or down to the local..playing the same but slightly out of sync...
the best mobil car tv tuners do this ...channel 10 say..... look for channel 10 source local...and dx...and provide a channel10 of the strongest
the crappy ones tune to channel 10...might find channel 9 or 7 is nest best and play it....
because there scanning for power of channel as a priority...and quality tuners scan for same channel as priority
they will usually throw a message up...channel 10 no longer in service..etc..
while the other cheaper ones..go from movie on 7 to watching the 9 wide world of sports.
and keep hunting..
that why people buy digital tuners for cars...from 400---2000 on there own...
some areas are going to be better for holding a channel at speed than others and better still with different antennas and better again with boost.your mobile phone does this scan and jump for a blank open channel to a stronger antenna rx and tx channel every few n/sec's when the phones are on the move...
how many have had a drop out...
how many have been disconnected
how many have gone quiet ..but not dead then comes back stronger
how many suffer fade and garbled..then resume..
if you seen digital tv do it you know it goes block !
pixelates
and does jumps and leaps...get frozen...
blacks out
then comes good
EXpect that on tv whilst in travel.......the better tuners will be less noticable with the right antenna
the cheaper tuners of cheap antenna will do that....
there also a number od these players ....with wifi....on them...handy cause some will let you email and web...
some will let you hd drive link for play of lappie etc of mp3 or movies of hard drive...
no risk of ever damaging a cd/dvd
so long AS THE UNIT HAS DUAL RUNNING FEATURES... CAN MAP WILL PLAYING THE MOVIE...OR TV..
OR CAN ANSWER THE PHONE while others watch tv..etc...
very useful
and can have map in the front and tv in the back...
i had a flying saucer antenna for the boat brilliant for analog tv..fm....am....soon i have to upgrade that...
but i dont know which ant is best with which tuner..and every one of these units ..you need to know the brand and type of digital tuner...
allot have inbuilt tuners with inbuilt dig antenna.....
cable for shielding the tv signal is another issue.......you noticed the small gps link cable....
anyway i am sure we dig up more info as we go...
1 is clearly better than the other...and tuner does its best.....but the antenna allows the tuner to scope...
so having a poor antenna can effect the tuner ability...
yeah unit is dual zone and tv DOESNT jump stations itll just sow a no signal error then come back . only criticism or dissapointment was despite specs saying it had graphic eq it DOESN't at least not a 5,7,9 band eq but more a DSP (can select rock, hall, concert etc and a basic bass treble control .unit has sub rca out which i hooked up along with fr/rear rca,s only to find no sub control on deck (no biggy i tuned my amps to a set level and don't stray much from that . pretty happy with unit though ,it has EVERYTHING except wifi .left back door speakers hooked up to deck so can switch off amps and watch movie with no flat battery as my amps are pretty BIG . LOL
Would someone mind helping me please with these dvd players \/ \/
Nice mate, I'm 100% getting one ASAP next week as early as possible, I'm not sure on which one too get though - GPS is a 100% must, Bluetooth is a 100% Must, Usb is a 100% Must, TV is a 100% don't need and so is the dvd player, I don't need either of the two, But since this is the price of a decent GPS unit, I thought why not just go all in 1? It might not be as good as top of the line stuff, But for a average joe like me, It's going to be absalutely fantastic....
I'm not sure on what one too get, And how reliable / how easy they are too install, I'll be doing it with my mechanic who knows a little bit about this stuff, But I hope it's not hard at all.... Can anyone tell me what I'm in for to get GPS / USB / Radio working and if it's that difficult?
P.S. Now debating weather or not what ones best too get, this first one has the ISO connector people are talking about, the second it doesn't say...

First one that seems decent, and then this one:

Second one looks better, More black and not as "in your face bright" But Not sure which one would be the best option for me....
Please someone give us a good hand as It'll be something I'm def doing as soon as easter is over and i can access my bank to put money into my account to buy it.

i had 1 in my old car wich was a vx s pac and now i hav the same double din dvd player in my vy cluby in both car fits like a glove but all u need is a fram 2 go around it so it looks more neet like it came out in the car from factory
Thank you! Would you please tell me how easy, and what I'd probably need to do to get one in ? Any pictures of your old VX with it installed mate? And where would I buy the frames for it ?
I've looked allover the place and the best ones I've seen on eBay are from Elinz Electronics.
Great interface, really fast processing and they sell higher end models which include the digital tuner and GPS etc. They'll even work with a CAT to use your OEM steering wheel controls (apparently). And what I think is best of all, they're Australian!!! No Hong Kong rip-offs
eBay Australia Shop - Elinz Electronics: 3.5 LCD screen Reverse Camera, 2 x 7 Car Headrest DVD Player
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
Very nice, I really Don't want to spend anything over $350 on one though, I'll have a look what he has and have a good look..
Edit:
It seem's as though they've got a little better graphically, But they don't have the same amount of features for the $$ you spend on it, You get more with the china one.
And Are they actually made here? He could just be a reseller, Import them from China and sell them, Meaning they're the same products, Just he's a seller from Australia, Which could be why his 7" full ones are $450 To make himself his own profit.? Meh, I'll stick to one of the two I was looking at. Better bang for buck when it comes to that price range!
I found a cool website, Live support, Can add them on MSN.... Can contact them pretty easily if anything was too happen...
7 Inch Touch Screen Car DVD Player - GPS - Bluetooth - TV
That player looks pretty decent, Change price on the right too Australian It's about $300, Looks decent... Anyone tried / know about this website?

i got the frame from JB hifi $20 if i can rememba, and i got them to install it as i had no idea wat to do
How much they charge ya mate ? That looks brilliant.
Hi there,
Been reading with interest your dilemma in deciding as to what to get. Went through the same thing late last year and ended up getting a Road King, which originated from Chinavasion in China. It is still one of their current models.
Road King 7 Inch High-Def Car DVD Player with GPS and DVB-T
It had everything that I wanted, primarily 800x480 screen resolution for GPS, (and mind you there are units out there where they advertise 800x480 but as it turns out that only applies to DVD video, whereas the GPS is still only 480x234), AM/FM radio, Digital TV, (what's the use for having analog TV as it will be phased out in a couple of years in Australia), Bluetooth for my mobile phone, DVD + the other video modes (AVI, Mpeg 1/2, DivX etc), MP3, Steering Wheel controls, Reversing camera (and also a front camera in my case).
In addition there were other features that came with it, which I wasn't all that fussed about but seeing they were included then why not. One was the ISO connector for wiring it into a Commodore VX through an ISO to VT adapter harness. That adaptor came from one of the local Autobarn Stores and was about $20. It makes the wiring so much simpler, allthough there are a couple of other cables you have to connect straight into the cars wiring loom.
Now basically a lot of the units that are sold, come from the same source in China. Chinavasion appears to be one major supplier. My unit came through an Australian Ebay dealer, but the unit was actually sent out directly from Chinavasion to me. And as a matter of interest it arrived here in Melbourne TWO DAYS after I placed the order!!
The ones that Elinz Electronics flog, look on their pictures exactly the same as mine. So theirs are probably also from Chinavasion.
http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/Elinz...__W0QQ_armrsZ1
Another Ebayer:
Road King 7 Inch High-Def Car DVD Player with GPS & DVB - eBay, Navigation, GPS, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 29-Apr-10 23:14:20 AEST)
also sells the same units. The guy that I bought mine through was based in Sydney I think, still sells a lot mobile phones etc, but he does not seem to sell 2Din devices any more.
Or you can also buy them directly from Chinavasion. And of course the prices do vary considerably between them.
So it really comes back to where you can get the best deal. But you do have to set down in your mind your firm requirements first.
Cheers

vx ...that is the beast i have been looking at myself...
i am thanking you for telling us the units are sweet...for the money they bloody should be LOL
thanks mate![]()
Thank you very much! I looked into that road king earlier tonight, And it's $50 postage, So Out of my price range for the king + ebay are 488+, I can get the one before it, Which is the same thing but without the HD screen and a couple of other things here - Which is actually called the "Road Master" From someone in sydney, and they're asking 370 for it... And I'd rather buy through someone like Him than that china website....
I'm Hoping he will give me some discount, As that price is pretty ripoff after researching and finding them for $290 without postage at other places.
Got any pics of it in your car mate ?
Last edited by Josheh; 07-04-2010 at 09:41 PM.
Yeah, the Roadmaster is one of Chinavasions cheaper range, 480x234 res and could be analog TV, and that's why the difference in price. To compare the different resolutions you really need to set them up on the bench, side by side and then you can see the difference.
Sorry have not got a pic of it, must do it some day. At the moment it is out of the car, sitting on the bench while I'm sorting out the automatic switching of my front end camera. The $50 postage is a bit high, mine was I think $30 by UPS courier with tracking info, and I think if it is sent by normal mail, which would probably take much longer, it will be cheaper again.
But again, you only gets what you pay for!
and another thing dont no if you've asked this or not and dont no if ur cars auto or manual but if its auto and you hav it in park ur still able 2 slide the screen open to change cd there is about a beez dick clearence between the auto n the screen wen its slid open
You are spot on Dino, with automatic you have to put it in N or R to open the flap. Or cut a bit off the top of the stick.
