So i started today converting all my interior lights over to blue as seen in the pic below. I have got everything under control untill i got to the rear window switches hmmm..
I have taken the globe out and its a 3mm halogen with a green cover (of course) and its in a wierd holder that pushes down onto 2 pins.
Im wanting to replace it with a 3mm blue led of course but i need a resistor and from looking at it theres not going to be any room to fit it in. So im just wondering how other people have swapped it to blue led? or if there is such thing as a 12v 3mm led?
Just bought a 3mm led and a 390 Ohm resistor, soldered it in, got it to fit and plugged it in and it works BUT when i flick the window switch the led goes off and the voltage across it goes from 3v to 1.4v.. then the led never comes back on. I then tested the LED and it still works... take the led off the switch and solder it back on after testing plug it in the car and it works that first time again, as soon as i use the window switch bam led off and drops from 3v back to 1.4v
WTF IS GOING ON!!!!!!!
not to worry guys. Got it all sorted. My car is now repping blue led rear window switchs![]()
hey mate. is it hard to do the blue led change over? an does it come up looking good?
hey how did you do all the blue lights? just LED's? coz i did all of my interior with LEDs and instead of lighting up the whole thing it makes patches of blue. and also after about a year they all start burning off
also my rear window switches did the same thing after 1 use. how did you fix it?
alright well....
1 - No its not hard at all. All that has been changed over as seen in the pic is using all factory holden globe holders with just T5 led's cliped in instead of the halogen crappy globes..
2 - Nah i havnt got any hot spots yet. i sanded the ends of the leds flat so the lights spreads more evenly. (only thing not converted now is the cluster, il soon know if that comes up with hot spots)
3 - With the rear window switch problem. Make sure you have the positive and negative around the right way and a 390 Ohm resister attached to the positive side. Also when the voltage drops under 12v the led will go out. So when you flick the switch up or down the led does go out.. but when you let go it should be back on. if not, start the car and you will see it comes back on.
4 - Dunno why the led's would burn out after a year. Possibly wrong sized resistors after while killing them. or just poor quality LED's
5 - I highly recommend changing over to LED's, it looks amazing compared to the factory green so much brighter and "custom" looking
i hope that answers everything
