VT Fuel Gauge not working

My fuel gauge in my car doesn't work. (And hasn't done in forever.. I just put up with it)

Actually, it works to an extent I should say. When I fill it right up, it will go up to full (unless I overfill it, and then I'm assuming something in the tank gets stuck because on the dash the gauge goes to empty & the fuel light comes on.. even though I have a full tank).

Anyhow, all is good with going up to full.. Only it won't go past half a tank. Now I would be over the moon if my car didn't actually ever go past half a tank.. But unfortunately it does, and even though I've now learnt to control it, I have run out of fuel quite a few times (DEFINATELY not fun when you go to pick the other half up at 4 on a Sunday morning from the pub & you have hot pink pj's with silver butterflies on them :P hehe).

So.. is anyone able to tell me what might be the problem?

pretty common problem with VT-VX's, just need a new fuel gauge card for your fuel pump unit... means tank out but its a cheap part to replace so its not too bad

what is the resistance range of the fuel sender in a vx?

i have similar problem in vr - bang the dash above the guage and problem is solved! good luck!

Peanuts - How much can I expect a new fuel gauge card to set me back? (aroundabout) I'm on maternity leave atm, so am only on half income & don't particularly feel like being ripped off by an overpriced mechanic!
