hey guys
got my VT S2 acclaim going into the exhaust shop on Monday to get the center muffle replaced with a straight through sports one the guy assured me it would be much louder
my question is has anyone had this done?? and give me a rough idea of what it is like?
its only costing me $170 to remove the old one and install the sports one.
what muffler you getting?
a straight through sports one the guy told me
Is that a straight through pipe replacement?? I.E no centre muffler. If is its not EPA legal.
A straight through sports muffler would be a glass packed "mega flow or ultra flow" style, they have a perforated tube from one end to the other and the cavity around it is packed with fibreglass.
It will be louder than what you have now, yes.
sweet thanks!
I am considering doing something for my car coz i want it to sound louder (in a sporty way), not sure what you guys mean tho.. r u saying that hes gonna remove the big chunky thing just before the exhaust tip???
coz my brother in law has done this for his vt and it sounds mad!! ive got the chunky thing just before my exhaust tip and it sounds sooo dull...
im not sure if it spends a hella more fuel tho.. does it? if yes how much more roughly??
and when you say its EPA illegal whats epa? im in WA (and i think thats legal coz my bro's car past the pits without that "big chunk" (again lol) )
by the way, if i replace my exhaust tip, does that change anything at all? fuel consumption or sound??
EPA is the Environmental Protection Agency. It would be the same in WA. Pretty much if the EPA hear your car and it's too loud they will send you a letter saying you have 3 weeks to get your car tested for noise levels and to send them the results. You pay something like $40 for the test. If you fail you get sent a fine of like $500 or something. Happened to my gf's bro. He just went to a muffler joint and got them to install a quiet, crappy bolt-on so that he could take it to the vicroads (not sure what it is in WA), get it tested, pass n then take it home n put his old one back on. he's got straight through right from extractors lol. he's already got another letter from the EPA on the way to lol
Less stringent here in WA. EPA don't do much at all, if a copper pulls you over and he thinks your car is too loud, he will defect it and order a noise level test. You just have to pass that and have your car inspected and it's all good. There is talk of an EPA test in WA at the moment, but it is something like $3000.
alshemary, I can do you a full 2 1/2" cat back for the VT for $185 without the rear resonator.
