    Default Mates got HSV issues.

A mate back in NZ dropped me a line about a 2000 HSV senator series hes got and for the past 3 months its been having some major dramas with gear changes.
He tells me when hes driving normally the auto box is searching for gears and holds the lower gears for a real long time but when it gives it shyt just so the car changes up to cruise its fine. But then when hes travelling at say 100km its wanting to drop up and down.
Hes been back twice to a gearbox joint (one I know and wouldnt use even as a last resort) who have on both occasions pulled it down and charged a grand for the pleasure.

Any suggestions guys? Hes in wellington and has tried Holden via the Tech2 to no avail?

    Much respect.
    Jas.

Tell him to go to a diferent gearbox joint sounds like hes geting ripped off. also if your auto fluid is low it will do what you described. but im asuming the gearbox joint would have put enuf fluid in at least.

He knows he should but hes spent alot of money with this guy and doesnt want to start from scratch and let the bloke off the hook. In saying that it may or may not be the box? Thats why I need some ideas to pass on to him.

From what your describing, it IS the box.

I dont know exactly what causes it, because when mine did it, i just threw it in the bin and converted to manual. But he shouldn't let them get away with charging him for it twice, when it still has the problem. Tell him to file a claim with small claims court, to get his money back. It will cost him $100 or so (not sure what it is there), but he will no doubt get $2000 back because of their dodgy work.

The thing is that if its the box it would throw out fault codes, atleast for the solenoids but Im not sure for the pump etc.. if that has electronic sensors? And if not you would think they would have checked it some how. Both visits has had it off the road for a few weeks combined so they must be looking at some thing eh?

Like I said just trying to arm old mate with as much info as possible since hes not the sort to rip it out to have a go himself, if hes got some knowledge they wont be inclined to pull a swifty

They've rebuilt it twice, charging him both times. They are already pulling a shifty.

Like i said, take it to small claims, and never let them work on the car again.
