So I just bought a used car from a private seller, car looked good but i never got it inspected. Just had a test drive. Figured that a RWC would be enough. Got the car yesterday and had my uncle look at it today and turns out it has a lot of a work needed (definitly upwards of $500, I think it was a new front left shock, power steering, and something for the brakes). He said it definitly wasnt roadworthy and shouldnt have gotten a certificate. Is this still a case of buyer beware or is there something I can do because the roadworthy certificate is obviously bullshit.
I'd take it to the mechanic who issued the RWC and ask him to rectify these faults for free. If he refuses, inform him you are going to take this further (to the RTA) and they can deal with it. It is obviously a bodgey inspection. I doubt if you will have any joy with a private seller; buyer beware there.
ditto and i agree 100% and in future if you purchase from private or sale lot...expect the same result
unless your pay for inspection as a member of auto club and have it independantly inspected...
there is no way a bargin with a rwc ...is often the case......and some time we know that to begin with...
be thankful if the thing passes with the errors fixed to cover up the doggy first rwc....
that this car will be any good past 30 days either...
so be warned...i recon the best safe bet is take it back and get the money and walk away from it....
If the roadworthy certificate is still valid then you can take it to the repairer listed on the roadworthy and raise the concerns and get it fixed. If they refuse, take the matter to your road authority.
i had the same problem when we got the missus a lancer, it was an obvious dodgy roadworthy, the first thing i did was ring the guy who we bought the car off and ask him to send everything we needed to get it upto to scratch, the guy we bought the car off fixes up write off's so instead of him risking his dodgy roady mate getting shut down he agreed to send all the parts. the next step was to contact the roady guy and if he did nothing it was either the rta or small claims tribunal but luckily didn't need to go that far. goodluck with it mate
