Default My soon to be? VT - Price check.

My bros father in law is upgrading his car, hes a old man and has owned the car since new and only put 70,000km on the clock.

Its a series 1 V6 Executive. When he was looking at trading it in on a VE he had offers from $500 to $2500 from the dealers.

Its in perfect condition and has been under cover all its life. He said if I can buy it off him rather than the dealers trading it in for the prices mentioned above and reselling it for 5k or so. I could probably sell my VN Calais for $1500 if I have to to help get the money for it.

He didn't say a price and I don't want to rip him off but I can't afford much either, at the moment I live from week to week and with bills I am unable to save a cent.

Just wondering what sort of money I should offer him that would be a fair price for it.

Edit: Silver (very nice paint, no fading or flaking) Auto, Cloth trim, Stock everything, No optional extras, 1 scratch been touched up on the rear bumper about 10cm by 2mm

    What?? Only $500 - $2500? At only 70,000 K's?
    That's still near new!
I know I overpaid, but I recently bought a VS exc for $2000, with like 3 times that many K's!
Bloody car yards are stingey, tight a**ed buggers, and will never give you what a car is really worth.
Yeah I reckon a VT, even though you haven't said what year exactly, but with only 70,000K's, and in top condition, would have to be worth anywhere from $2500, to $5000, surely?

6-7 at Yards. 4-5 is a bargain. 5-6 is fair.

Good car though S2 is generally b etter than S1. 70K on it ? It's practically new.

By comparison I paid 10,500 for an S2 acclaim ex bank company vehicle with 150k on it, 4.5 years ago. Gem of a car. Had aftermarket wheels and 235 / 45 R17 tyres, and SS seats already fitted.

Redbook is $2300 to $3700 180.000k avg so up to $4000 for low ks private sale. I would like to see the service record! Only 8 services. Redbook trade-in $500 to $1900 so $2500 trade in not so bad. Still, I would love to pick up a VT for $500!!!

My opinion never trade your car in most of the time you can sell it for heaps more privately or ebay

Offer him 3 k and you have a bargin...........look on ebay same cars with 240 000 km sell for around 3

Personally I would never buy of a family member I think every one knows why. But offer him something good like 4.5/5Gs. So it wont bite you in the bum.

I traded my VK Commodore for a VS for 1G in 2005. Dumbest thing I ever done cant even find a VK commodore for a project now.

He'd get $4k for it standing on his head. Only 70000; it's still like new. I realise you are short of cash but if you could get that for $3-4k, you're laughing!
