HELP!!! my car wouldn't start...
I'll try to keep this simple. MY CAR WOULDNT START! it was just kicking over.
i know nothing about cars i need someone to show me more.
so i rang my brother he suggested swapping some of the relays around so i did. car started..
so one relay was a dud..
went to autobarn took the relay in and said i wanted to replace it, the guy got me one said it was the exact same.. so i bought it n drove home..
decided to put the new relay in.. then an hour later decided to go out went to start car, it just kicked over & my alarm went off n then smoke started coming out from under the bonnet!!!
i didn't see where the smoke was coming from i was more concerned about getting my daughter out of the car..
called racv they came over, n then said he couldnt touch it coz of what happened so now i have to tow it to an auto lecs...
any ideas on what happened? any ideas on what i'm gonna be up for.
was the relay put in the same way could of reversed the pwr if wasnt put in right. i started off thinking it was the battery as most ppl have toubles in colder times.
my battery is 2 months old, so i doubt there's a problem there. i'm positive i put the relay in right.. hope to god i did
the relay the guy sold me was 40amp.. the guy from racv did mention that they're normally around 30amp??

It's hard to say without knowing more, but definitely sounds like it was something electrical that caused the smoke, like a short or something.
It 'shouldn't' cost a lot, depending on how much damage has been caused, and where.

No worries mate, hope it all gets sorted for ya.
Just explain to them as best you can exactly what happened, and what you changed, it will make it easier for them to narrow it down.
I don't have any workshop manuals for VT or VX yet, so I'm unsure of the relay/fuse box set-up in them, to be much more help to ya.

Cheap,nasty&full o shit
autobarn sold you the wrong relay. some of the holden relalys have the power and earth pins reversed. standard relay will go in no problems but will blow main fuse when you start the car(hence the smoke). go back to autobarn and make them pay for the auto elec. the spare parts salesperson should have known the difference.
