Trying to find where the stock splits for the front speakers/tweets are in VT calais, cant find anything written up, have searched the doors, under the dash. short of ripping everything out i cant seem to trace the wiring beyond going under the dash.
Anyone know where they are and how to get to them?
are you looking for the tweeter or a splitter box like you get with aftermarket splits? im pretty sure there isnt a splitter box for the stock speakers
dont y ou guys know what splits are?.... something physically has to split the connection as both the tweeter and the speaker are run off the same connection.
it will be a box or a cable... i cant for the life of me find it.... and need to get to it to fit the new split box.
but where is the location where they are splitting the cable?
In the kick pannels under the dash. Follow the same colour wires from the tweeter. you will soon find it
You will have to back track the wiring mate. And the factory splits have a 6db slope on the tweeter (Capacitor in series with the tweeter).
What are you trying to do?
replaced the 6x6 in the door with my 6.5 kevlar, put the other kevlar tweets in replacing the factory tweets, now need to put the split box in.
need to find where the cables being split.
You should be using aftermarket wiring for those anyway, if your talking about the Jaycar kevlar splits? just splice the wiring from the tweeter and run it to the kick pannel, then from loom on the inside for the door speaker and wire it into the cross over. then run your own wire to the headunit.
Stock wiring for aftermarket speakers isnt the greatest.
Ok so I gather you are using the factory wires. Why don’t you just run your own wiring from the crossover.
Do you have a crossover? Or just replacing the speakers.
I thought that the VT commodores came with 6.5 from factory? not 6x6.
kick panel? english please.
stock wiring will be fine for it, the wire is all good density. sorry if im not understandable i've neraly finished my diploma in systems engineering which covers soldering, wiring component level repairs and stuff, i've noticed after going to a few car audio places where there are guys there who dont speak english its a bit dif for htem.
I've also found a lot of audio tech guys dont really know many facts, just a lot of opinions which is why this is getting so confusing.
Im tryna leave the car as untouched as possible so i really dont wanna go digging for where its split unless i know its there, may not be keeping this car more then six months so want to not modify it much ,as it is atm can swap all stuff out within 30m. im also not splicing wiring much.
You should know what a kick panel is Mr. diploma. Go buy a Gregory's book on your car then.
meh, just asking for a simple answer. might have to go buy one, already spent a few hours today making a bouqet out of the stock calais amp so it can actually be used
I will give you a clue what do you use to kick? Have fun
chill bro just had a rough night. thanks for the contributions. just after a straight answer saving as much time as possible.
this car isnt like hte old days of hte VR where i wasnt afraid to rip her apart to do stuff, this car has some of the strangest wiring i've ever seen, even found the rear speakers are running off splits it seems. and on top of that this wiring is stock it seems... infuriating
Mate. Here it is and i hope you understand
- The factory splits in a vt calais have no cross over box. the crossover is on the tweeter with an inline resistor/capacitor.
- If you want to leave the wiring un touched. Mount your cross over box in the kick pannel (look at the accelerator pedal and turn your head right, thats the kick pannel
- Then run your own wires to the door for the speaker, then up into the dash for the tweeter then just splice the 2 wires that goto the headunit to connect them. This leaving the door and tweeter speaker wiring un touched. Only splicing (NOT CUTTING IN HALF AND REJOINING) the factory wires going to the headunit
All in all, you will end up with a set of splits installed. and you will only have 2 wires with a tiny bit of insulation missing which can he heatshrinked and taped later on
cheers bro. house of pain just came on, i think im psyched to go finish her off![]()
diploma in systems engineering and can figure out where to to take a full spectrum audio signal from? what's todays yooth coming to?
its called not wanting to rip up a dash![]()
don't need to spell when your over 40
Front speaker wires from head unit go to the special harness which then runs to my aftermarket splits, which send signal in a new wire to the tweets, and then the harness returns the woofer signal back to the original wire for the front speakers.
Sounds pretty kickass, like how in this car as well the tweeters are hidden to lure away suspecting eyes
