    Default VT Exhaust modifications!

    Hi guys,
Just posted some photos on my work on the exhaust modifications which i did. I was looking for an exhaust with good note. but recently i visited a car yard in brissy to look for an exhaust. after looking for months i was lucky this weekend. I found an vt with a exhaust pipe whihc is straight without the big fkn muffler of holden. I always wanted to get rid of the big muffler which supresses the pressure from the massive engine.

With this tail pipe i was happy that i cud do a good job ( actually not easy as i thought) on my VT. I found the worst part getting rid of the tail pipe is the rusted bolts and the pipes which really took me 3 hrs to finish this job. initially i tried to loosen the pipes which i found was so tough and tiresome. but WD 40 helped me a lot.

I intially tried removing the bolts off the tail pipe. after so much effort and with a 15 mm socket i was successful.

It wasnt easy as i tried to remove the tail pipe by just pulling coz of the rust. after trying so hard i decided to remoe the exhaust from the cat back. those bolts were spring loaded and were so easy to remove. u have to remove the bushes which hold the muffler. first u need to remove the locks. use a scre driver to remove them.after i removed it took me half an hr and hardcore banging to remove the tail pipe off. as u see in the pictures u ll know how hard i tried. and the reverse procedure is easy but i recommed u to get some assistance since the muffler is heavier than it looks. allu need to do is get the bushes and the bolts back on. slipping on the tail pipe is not hard but u got to notice that the stock pipe has got a restarining thingy which stops the muffler to slip fully on. i reckon u use a file to scrap that thing off the pipe and ur tail pipe slides in easily! don forget to get bushes back on the tail pipe and leave it hanging.

I am happy that this tail pipe cost me just $10 and am happy with that sound!

U can get try to get a tail pipe as on the picture which can be made by a local workshop or try getting somewhere else and fit it urself.

I have been asked to pay $70 for this fitting but i just did it myself. its just not abt saving money but u can have a good time doing this with some beer! (as i did).

I learnt something" Nothing is hard"

    Cheers guys,

Sorry for this boring long explanation. I am not good at writing. anyway my nect posts will be short! ( i ll try)

you serious mate? lol on a standard exhuast or even 2.5 you dont lose power by removing a muffler, i have a full exhuast with only one center and i havnt lost power, if say he went and put a single 3" on his car then it would lose power and sound crap

Im confused lol, your running one muffler now? the one after the cat?
just curious as i run a straight through muffler and have tried it with a hotdog, resinator and atm its cut before the resi and remains without tail pipe (hopefully for not too much longer as i hate the look) to see how it went.
Anyway im still not convinced as they all have there ups and downs for me however i did seem to find that now without tailpipe it has lost a bit off power, even though it sounded better lol. I thought it was just me but now i read that it actually does reduce power, just wondering if yos have any advice for my system.
How did you fine yours to run now?
BTW nice job always good to see stuff done DIY

I'm a bit confused as to how the back is jacked up with the brake rotors and spare wheel. Am I missing something in that pic?

so now he only has the small muffler after the cat and removed the bigger muffler at the rear and replaced it with a straight through tail pipe? well on my VT i bought it and it had the big muffler removed - literally cut off 2inches after the small muffler and its loud as F**k!!! its shit, its sounds like absolute crap and also im sure the car has lost power cos of it? ......so today i picked up a rear exhaust section from a vx calais to replace the exhaust thats been chopped on mine and will in a couple of hours update yas as to if theres a power increase (nothing huge if any)

i reckon keeping it stock or subtle is the go, not a huge fan of a loud exhaust unless its a V8... the V6 note just doesnt do it for me...thats just my 2cents =)

Yeah guys i can feel the loss of power! But the exhaust i was looking for on the ebay had the same kinda muffler setup. Just one single muffler straight thru. So i had an idea of just making the ssame kinda arrangement byt removing my bigger muffler at the back!

Everybody thinks they can do better than exhaust manufacturers that spend thousands on research and development. Good luck with yours...
