Instrument issue

I have a vx commodore was driving just recently and the speedo,tacho,fuel and temp guages died pulled car over and turned it off when tried to turn it back on the battery was dead.

After getting a jump start all went back to normal until i hit 50k then the guages died again and accesorie light came on but the car was and is still driving and behaving perfectly lights and indicators wroking fine and the instruments come on when travelling under 50k car has done 128, 000
any ideas to the problem would be appreciated

if ur lucky its just the regulator on the alternator but worse case the whole alternator is buggered. when the reg blows it allows to much current out of the alternator and the guages have a safety and turn off to prevent damage from high voltage. it should only be outputting around 14v if its up to like 17v its way to high and its buggered.
