I have a VTII "S" SV6. I noticed a clunking sort of noise coming from the rear end the other day. I gave the accalerator a little squirt and the noice dissapeared. However this morning after driving in traffic for about 20 mins, the noise came back. It seems to only be at low speeds and also does it both under acceleration or just rolling. I took it to have it looked at today, they drove it a few times, no noise (of course) threw it on the hoist and did a safety check and inspected the underside of the car. They could find nothing. car has done about 160,000. Just had the ABS module replaced and trans serviced (2,500kms ago). It started to get farily loud, then when I gave it a bit of stick (when I got out of traffic) the noise dissapeared. Seems to be only at speeds below 50km/h.
Any ideas???????
Diff, CV joints
mm thanks, have had another look and listen, thinking it might be the handbrake assembly, went done and got some new ones, wierd looking things, will fit them and see how it goes. The hankbrake is not grabbing as it should and the noise seems to sound like a spring hitting on something. Tried the handbrake at idle speed and just got a huge clunk from it. Hoping it is just that. Will post how I go.
Good call mate, it was the CV joints, they were both shot. All better now though. Soon as the he called for the parts the guy said, "it's lowered isn't it"
i would have said change diff oil, my ute did this, it has the same amount of km's. quick change of diff oil and it was fixed.
but yeh well done on finding out what it was![]()
