yesterday travelling behind a truck some small stones smashed an inch long crack on my windscreen. i heard that if this crack does not get repaired it will grow and eventually weaken the screen. Whats the price of a brand new windscreen and is a one inch crack able to be repaired? i know of minor cracks, but one inch cracks??
If it was my car i would get the windscreen replaced. If you have insurance you are normally allowed one windscreen replacement per year without affecting your no claim bonus or having to pay any excess.
after a few bumps and in a week the crack will be a 20cm long your better off hetting a new one
sounds like the voice of experience. ok, will be in the market for a new windshield
where abouts are you Perth? cos i might be able to recommend some places i was in the windsceen market not long ago, nationally i'd go probably go novus
After leaving my car in the lot for an afternnon, the chip grew to a crack. The agen does not have a spare and the closest windscreen reapir shop only has a windscreen for a holden VR which we measured. It is still 1.5 inches too narrow. do you all know whether any other windscreens from other cars will fit?
hey
vt through to vz have all got the same windscreen according to my glass wholesaler
go to o'brien and get there secret resin.....lol
If it's a crack you won't be able to repair it. If the crack isn't in my field of view or particularly annoying I just leave them there. Sometimes they stay very small for years, sometimes they end up straight across the whole screen within a day in which case you would need to replace it. My last screen cost me $200 in the VE about 12 months ago (supplied and fitted).

I read an article on replacement screens recently, when they remove the old screen and scrape off the old sealant they can scratch off paint at the same time, not noticable when the screen is back in but rust develops under the new screen in the coming years, the article said that you should ask if the fitter re primes any bare metal exposed whilst cleaning up prior to fittment.
this is what happened to my gf's VP, she got a new wind screen then within a year out of the blue, it just cracked right across it, got another windscreen and the repairer, showed us a big bubble looking piece of rust, apparently previous installer didnt get red of it, new installer however grinded it and resprayed, i also got a windscreen at same time for my VT that was $175 supplied and fitted, even came to the house to do it
I had a quote to replace my old fords windscreen for 140 bucks.. also someone dropped a pipe on the roof of my works AU ute and it went from a chip the size of a 10c coin to several cracks from top to bottom.. soo i would recommend you spend the extra money and get a complete new screen..
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, if it weren't for Fords our tools would rust.
