hello people just wondering if i have to undo the radiator hoses and power steering hoses i am getting the parts very soon and also got a diagram from holden today along with prices of the mounts wooh they where expensive .
on the other hand the parts are genuine but the gearbox mount i need was cheaper at holden then repco .
HAS ANYONE THATS DONE THIS JOB WOULD U CONSIDER IT A BIG JOB AND ALSO WHAT TOOLS ARE NEEDED ?
my father inlaw reckon u just need a jack under the engine but knowing what he knows and what i know about the car hes way off the mark in what he thinks i need
thanks again
no idea champ, but my brother in law had to do it to pass the pits 2 weeks ago. he took it down to a local mechanic we know and he charged him 300-350.. its not an easy job if you dont have the correct tools. unless you wanna get into the mechanical fitting business i recommend get someone professional to do it for you.
ps. his car was running a hella smoother than before (he had 2 worn out mounts under the engine).
i got a quote to have this done 3 weeks ago, as my sump was actually rubbing on the K frame, they said its a bigger task then normal where backyarders just jack motor and your sweet, the engine mounts on 1 side require aircon pump being removed
yeah i will have the parts soon and i will be doing the job myself .i will also be doing the gearbox mount aswell ive dont mounts before at my old work but that was on a hoist .my aircon pump its stuffed so it no bgi deal having to remove it cause it got no gas in it . i can get the gearbox mount from holden for $24 but the engine mounts are like 278 for the pair so i will be going to REPCO here for $67.00 each
There used to be some good how to's on this subject, so try searching.
Not as easy a job as doing them in a straight 6, like your father in law probably remembers.
The mounts protrude from the block at roughly 4 oclock and 8 oclock (viewed from the front).
So it is not possible to just undo the bottom nuts and lift up and replace mounts and drop back down, because they will not go in the holes in the K frame
If I remember correctly the advised method was to,
support the engine, with a block of wood protecting the sump.
Undo the drivers side mount from the engine block (leave the old mount bolted to K frame)
Undo passenger side mount from Kframe, lift engine a little, to enable mount to come away from K frame, undo mount from engine (I think it may possible to leave A/C in place).
Undo drivers side mount from K frame and replace with new mount.
install new passenger mount onto engine block, then lower engine and get the passenger mount back through Kframe and loosely install nuts.
Install the drivers side bolts back into the engine block.
Basically, you bolt passenger mount to engine then lower mount back into Kframe, drivers mount is already in Kframe and you then bolt it to engine.
Watch that no hoses or things like fuel line at the back of the block get squished.
I have not done the job as I was abit intimidated by the whole process as I am not as flexible as I once was, my mechanic did not take the A/C compressor off, I think he may have some spanners bent to fit the job
The only thing I can add is that that A/C compressor has to be moved a bit to allow access to the bolt for the mount, no need to disconnect the compressor hoses just undo the bolts and move it slightly.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
no need to unbolt A/C compressor , undo the mount nuts and jack engine up from sump , with a bent 15mm ring spanner undo the nuts holding the mounts to the engine brackets , a good mechanic can change both mounts in less than an hour
Was my memory corrrect as in "Basically, you bolt passenger mount to engine then lower mount back into Kframe, drivers mount is already in Kframe and you then bolt it to engine"?
Or is it in fact possible to bolt them on and drop it down?
I have always bolted both up to the engine brackets and then dropped the engine down and worked the studs in from there
where can we order/purchase VT V6 engine mounts from? besides holden...? repco? or autobarn?
I got KMart auto to do mine a while ago. I'm sure the mounts were only about 80 bucks, and I don't think the service fee was too bad. I did post it here somewhere. ..... here is the post here:
grinding noise under front left
Ben.
the left side is where the main problem is cause ive changed the right side in the past but not had to do the left . i got a fitting quote from holden $250 while small private shop wanted $350
