haha that looks nice mate, Good work.
Looks awesome mate!
Just curious tho. If its just normal exterior paint, how will it stand up with the heat in the engine bay?
ive had it on for a week now, seems fine so far touch wood, the plastic surprisingly isn't all that hot
i see u have what looks like a amp wire setup can u elaborate on the how set up of it or is it in the audio section of this forum ?
BTW the engine cover looks good .just wondering how long it will last if u havent used the heat resistant paint
ive gone mainly alpine just because i like to keep things the same, im picky like that for some reason anyways for subs i have 2x type R 12s ( wanna get X's but not fussed atm) powered by 2x PDX-1.1000 so 1 per sub then type x splits in front and type r's in rear doors, havnt done anything with parcelshelf, not even sure if i will, they are powered by a PDX-4.150 er some other stuff, cant remember, ive had the stereo for awhile now, can dig out the old boxes later if it matters
0 gauge wiring to boot (btw pic is old now, only 1 strand of 0 gauge now and its going on drivers side of car now that i discovered another rubber grometand a 8 farad cap, thats about it, overkill sure, do i care, no lol
and about temps, my dad has one of them IR Thermometers so after work tomorrow when engine is all heated up, i'll check temps of cover just for interests sake
Good job - looks great!
I painted mine a year ago with exterior paint, and it still looks as good as it did back then.
Pretty smooth job, nice work.
Exterior paint can hold up with heat, unless its not introduced to its arch enemy the Nake Flame/Fire.
as an ex spray painter i have painted a full engine black using nothing less then exterior paint that was left over of the car and cleared it off with a semi gloss finish, that was 3 years ago till this day it looks just as good as it did when i done it. if you have taken all the correct steps to prep it you should not have an issue.
If it weren't for my lawyer, I'd still be in prison. It went a lot faster with two people digging
Yeah the paint will be fine so long as you prep the plastic before you spray it. I did one years ago as a rush job, and there were a few spots I didn't prep properly where the paint bubbled a bit and started to peel.

Quick question, how did you paint on the red lettering? did you paint it first then tape it up? Just trying to think of the best way as I am gonna do something similar. By the way, looks really nice colour coded to the car.
i just sanded the whole thing by hand, then sprayed the whole thing even the lettering, then did the red later, the red was from a tin, so i used a small craft paint brush and put it on afterwards
nice job here, the red hurts my eyes but still great attention to detail.
I've had a V6 and now a V8... the V6 is barely luke warm compared to the V8Painted both covers and within 2 days the V8 started fading... same vinyl/plastic exterior paint. V6 never had a problem.
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape somewhere
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
weird everyone else does, refresh maybe? clear cache, who knows mate
hey mate looks mint i am wanting to do a very simallar thing to my engine cover can u do a quick run throught of the process
hey mate, looks great! want to do a similar thing to mine but in the same blue as my car, however the front of mine is cracked a little bit. before i spend money on paint, does anyone know where i can pick up a new engine cover for my V6?
cheers
all i did was get the paint code, went to repco and got a can of spray paint, prepared the engine cover by lightly sanding it everywhere, it helps by making it rougher so the paint has a better surface to stick to, then i sprayed the whole lot, start spraying say a inch before the cover as your going past it, helps stop getting blobs of paint on it, i left it for about 2 hours to dry, then did a second coat to make sure it was all even, left that over night as it was getting late, then next day, grabbed a small/skinny craft paint brush, and did the red by hand with paint from a can then left that for half a day as the red was thicker, pretty sure thats all i did
yeah best place to get an engine cover is a wrekers ^^^^^^^. Plus you know what we all need to paint the ugliest thing in a vt-vz engine bay the friggen dirt broen power steering bottle yuck f^% that things ugly lol.
dope you have given my next project
Im glad just one tip, don't forget to leave a line at the back so u can see how full it is not that u can see through them anyway lol. Dont forget to show us some pics when u finish Ive been thinking about doing this 4 ages 2 lazy.
