VT won't rev

Hi there everybody. My VT wont rev past 2500 rpm without stalling and is pretty rough running getting just to there (this is all with no load on the engine). Starts and idles OK apart from an occasional drop in revs. Noticed cable to cruise control has broken but apart from that all hoses etc are connected. Any ideas? Much appreciated

lots of possibilities..

fuel pump, injectors, oil filter, airfilter or sparkplugs

Could be low fuel pressure from faulty fuel pump, blocked fuel filter or faulty fuel presure regulator. Could also be Air Flow Meter.

Thanks for the replys. "Whirring " sound coming from rear R hand side near filler cap. I assume the fuel pump is under there and should be quiet. Hope its that simple?

I was gunna say it sounds like fuel preassure as mentioned.. or plugs.. resistance.. coil packs.. ie.. -Youd have to be unlucky thereabouts to have a faulty airflow.. but check the air ducts are all sealed as the sound of whirring seems to sound like an air leakage.
