    Default DIff trouble

Hi, i've got a VT s2 SS and i'm having trouble with my diff, it has been replaced twice now. The problem is
just crusing along, there is a horrible whinging and slight grinding noise. The place where the diff was
bought from sez that because the car is slightly lowered, it puts the drive shafts out of alignment, the drive
shafts have been replace with genuine new ones, but the noise went away slightly only to return.
Can you please help shed some light on this issue for me.
    thanks
    Ross

It sounds like worn carrier bearings in your diff. Did they just replace your diff with a second hand one from the wreckers or have they rebuilt your diff?

Ugh... Lowering does change the drive shaft alignment but all the drive (and prop shafts) have rubber bushings and CV joints to deal with this.

Continous whining that changes relative to road speed means either worn Pinion / carriers or or maybe crown gear. Grinding going round corners usually means worn cones in an LSD.

I would be looking dubiously at the diff, and suspicious of the quality of the rebuild. You see - they may have replaced some of the patrts in the diff, not all of them. How much did you pay for a reco ? Anything less than $900 means your unlikely to have got a 'full' reco. $1500 gets you a full reco and swap from oped to LSD, with new gear sets of your ratio choice.

If your in Brisbane I can point you at some trustworthy people.
