Default rear turbo setup 4 vx?

has anyone actually put a rear mounted turbo on their commodore yet (vt vx) (other than whats on you tube) im thinkn in front of diff, where muffler box currently is. would a catch can in the boot for the oil with 2 pumps (in & out) be more practical than tampering with the pressure in the motor. would an oil cooler be necassery? would a garrett t04e flow enough for the 3.8 vx if not can someone recommend one. all advice on this thread would be greatly appreciated

Not that I can find. I'm looking into it though. One of my mates is going to buy my car and wants to do a 12 in it. A rear mount turbo is one of our options. I see it as the cheapest and most unique way of getting boost. It's the easiest thing to custom make, but if all you want to to is pay, bolt on, and go fast, you really want a well developed off the shelf blower or front mount turbo, as they can be optioned with everything required and are a known thing.

A rear mount isn't all roses, they come with their own downsides, the main one being a specific turbine housing is needed (one that you wouldn't ever use as an engine bay mounted item because it's too small). Also the boost response depends on the exhaust system temperature, and the spool noise is unbelievably loud. Then there's the normal things that under-car mounted things have to deal with, like dirt, water, and rocks.

Turbo's work off pressure differences, which is created by air moving through a restriction (the turbine wheel). If you halve the (absolute) temperature of a gas, you halve the volume that it takes up. The gas coming out of the end of your tailpipe is a lot cooler than what is present in the headers, and it changes somewhat depending on ambient temperatures, so it takes up less space.
