My 98 VT SS makes a beeping noise each time I start it (like when you leave the handbrake on while driving noise, but a different tune) No warning lights come on, and no alert comes up on the display. Any ideas what it could be???
does it have an aftermarket cd/dvd player (although the majority only beep on shut down) over than that it could be low fuel, service due (but as far as i know it doesn't beep for this)
best bet is to run it by an auto elec
It does have an aftermarket CD player, but the noise is def coming from the dash as an alert, not the player. I thought could be low fuel but the fuel light doesnt come on either. And yeah service reminder is the only other thing I could think of, even though I thought same as you, that they didnt beep for that. Also (well in my VU it did) for service reminders it used to flash whatever service was due on the odometer display. Might ring Bathurst Holden this week and see what they say.
yeah they do flash for the due service, from series 1 executive through the range this was a standard feature, however (and i don't know why you would bother) the service due can be made to dissapear by holding the up and down arrow on the display mode switch (to the left of the dash) and then switching the car on
just a useless bit of info for ya
You might have a blown globe and the warning doesn't show up ?.
In the book it does say it warns all models for upcoming service.

And yeah thats a good point Slick. All the lights Im aware of seem to light up when I first turn the car on tho like they do and then go out, but ther could very well be another light Im not aware of that isnt coming up.
I think V8's have a coolant warning ?, the V6's dont.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
lol im very curious on what the outcome is as ive got the exact same prob atm, im almost positive its the airbag warning but the fuse is blown.
when you hold down mode and + it goes into the second lot of wodes which has on the last one a dash system check for lights and beep, when i did mine there was no airbag light.
i will take a photo of the test and put it up if someone else can do the same so i can compare.

like i said i would appreciate if someone could do theirs so i can compare.
just noticed to that my abs light isn't there either but it does work as i just did an abs fault check the other day?

thanks heaps matemy airbag light must be blown, also do you know if all models had the tail light out light? and low coolant light? if they did then those 2 must be blown on mine too.
also i guess its normal for the abs light not to illuminate on the test.

Ill have to do this test to see if I have any lights out. How do I get them all to light up? Hold down 'Mode' and '+' is it?
Ok, I tried the above test. When I get to the last mode (where im guessing all the lights are meant to come on) all that comes up is all the info on the LCD screen (where your odometer is) none of the lights. Is that normal? I know some of them work as some flash on when starting the car normally :S When starting the car the engine light and coolant level lights dont come on Ive noticed so far (really hoping that the beeping when starting the car isnt the warning for 'engine light on') Ill try record the sound and post it up and see if its the same as anything you guys recognise. Might pull the dash out next weekend and replace ALL the bulbs anyway, as I know I have a few out behind the RPM and speedo anyway. Hope Im not left with an engine light permantly on due to a problem with the car...
This may help a little when looking at the beep codes.
Beeps
White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
Heres a video of the beeping. (Note: Beeps at the end is the CD player, its the series of beeps that occurs a little after a switch it to 'on' that I dunno what they are.
As Accents said the possibles I know of are:
Airbag - Doubtful as the light goes out as normal
Low Fuel - Fuel light isnt on (and it works coz it was on E with the light on when I bought it (Typical. lol))
Handbrake - Is a different tune as I tried it
Overspeed- Doubtful as noise occurs when just switching it to 'on' and not even starting the car
Over Temp - Doubtfull as doesnt 'HOT' appear on the odometer LCD when this happens?
And Oil Temp and coolant level? - Both Possible i guess.
Anyone else heard these same beeps before?
yeh mate thats the same beeps im getting at the same time after start up
"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
Its really starting to bug me. Lol. And I cant use the paperclip trick to check the codes as my engine light appears to not be working and thats what flashes to tell you the codes. Doh. Lol.
ive done a code check and nothing is coming up, ill go do another check right now
*edit* just did the tests and there is still no codes

Airbag light goes out as per normal tho. Didnt think of tensioners. Hmmm. Im at a loss of what to actually do to fix it.
Edit: Kniever, does your airbag/tensioners light not come up at all? Because mine does and then goes out like it should...
