Hey guys,
Last service i had they noted "Rocker Cover and Valley Cover Leaking Oil". I've been quoted $450 to fix it. Does this sound about right? could i get it done cheaper? (Adelaide)
Is it a serious problem? if i left it for a month or two would it do damage?
Thanks
If it is only weeping oil, which I would expect it is, you could safely put the repair off till conventent. BUT, if it's dribbling oil onto the ground where you park overnight, the sooner the better it's repaired.
I would think the price quoted to be a bit 'over the top', get several quotes before you give anybody the O.K. to go ahead and do the repair.
I see, thx for the input ill definately ring around a few places trying to get a better price. I haven't noticed much oil on the ground at all, but just checking my dipstick just now the level is halfway between ADD and FULL, maybe ive lost a little?
$50 for a Gregory's or similar manual, $65 for new gaskets, and about 3 hours and your done.

I wish i could do it myself, but im not very mechanically minded. However, definately be willing to pay someone from here to do it! anyone in Adel?
There is a good chance it is only a rocker cover leaking. Get a mirror and have a look to where the oil is actually coming from. It will be good practice for you to become familiar with the engine and whats hanging off of it. I doubt the leak you have would make the oil level drop on the dip stick.
The rocker cover gaskets are very easy to replace, if it is only them at fault.
done mine recently ,pretty easy , heres a guide for the harder of the sides Holden Commodore VS VT VX Ecotec 3.8 V6 Engine rocker cover gasket replacement - WebDevSys
they make you undo the tb cable thing, when my mate changed my roller rockers we didnt do any of that, just took covers off ect
I only removed the leads on either side, and the intake pipe from the MAF to the TB on the passenger side, easy as.
