Have read all the threads on this one but would like some help. Moderately modified with 1.97 rockers, 69mm throttle body, 100mm cold air (K&N pod filter), Pacemaker extractors and cat back exhaust, uprated memcal, cold plugs (1.0mm gap) high voltage leads and 10psi pulley.
Over the last 2 weeks it has got harder and harder to start to the point where it takes 20 minutes with jump leads to firfe. Once it starts it runs really well and economy is great. From what I read it is either one of the sensors or the ICM (hope not $650.00 from the dealer!!). Any ideas???
what is actually happening when it doesn't start?
does the engine turn over? make any noises? what are you doing in the 20 mins with the jumper leads? hot, cold, all the time?
sounds either battery, starter or connections/cables...
starter motor or something along those lines
I had it in for a service and no faults came up. Same thing thing this morning, battery getting flat so called a mate and after 10 minutes of jumper lead starting it fired. Strangely I took the key out (fob was rooted and on my list of things to do) pressed the fob and bingo. I let the car cool for 4 hours this afternoon and started first time but an hour later was hard to start but did fire. Booked in for a new key fob program tomorrow but still have my doubts. I have been using APC in Perth (great team) and they seem to think it is the 69mm throttle body.............seems the VT has a problem in this upgrade. All set to replace all sensors and throttle body. Any other suggestions if the key deal does not work out?
I dont think it is the tb. There are shit loads of people out there (myself included) with the bigger tb on these motors and dont have a problem. My guess is the key, ign or starter solinoid.
